You mean docking at a rotating ring? Sounds fun, the first few times.
It seems that FD builds new space stations first and foremost to support the larger ships, while it would make more (economical) sense to have outposts there first.
But I would like more varied station designs as well. We wouldn't have Coriolis stations if Frontier were only interested in plausible designs.
For a space dock, I'm thinking more of a docking framework for post-toaster sized vessels which would probably have an outpost attached to it where the business would happen; some big storage-only attachments or separate cargo areas. Very industrial/construction yard.
Something like those battlecruiser repair docks, maybe even separate from the main station? That could work.

The biggest ship I own is Asp Xp and whenever I dock at station I've got the impression that I will hit the mail slot.
That was until I played Elite in my VR. Those things are massive in VR !!!

A slightly less than 200m wide ship is stupidly large. Any larger, and it won't be docking itself, it will have docks for other ships to use. We don't need new stations for larger ships - they simply wouldn't dock (they'd use smaller ships for transfers, or possibly attach to the outside of other structures).
There are already a reasonably wide variety of station types.
Well... 3? The square ones, the round ones and the asteroid ones. That's hardly "wide".
I remember I was blown away when FDev finally decided to change the interior colours and looks a bit so stations look different at least inside.

There is also quite a lot of variation within the types, if you look (e.g. the Coriolis stations can have arms, there are tourist, mining, and other types of station). There are the outposts too, which are different depending upon who controls them (e.g. scientists, pirates, etc.). And of the "round" ones, there are several different models too.
Yes but all of them fall into the same "shape category". It would be nice to have something different once in a while. So far the only "different" ones we had were the asteroid ones and that's it.
I guess all this is "lore" related but surely with Guardian research and Thargoids we can come up with something other than just weapons and shields...

See, that's how it should/could work in my head.
Systems/Sectors would have a "Main Trade Hub" which'd be where the large ships dock, at which point NPCs or players could distribute cargo between the dock and the other stations in the region.
These "Trade Hubs" would, of course, likely become a hotspot for piracy and "emergent gameplay" so docking a large ship safely might become a Squadron operation, where the large ship would need a combat escort and cargo haulers in order to unload quickly, without incident.
It's all part of the plan, I say.

Then we get the Panther, but it will not dock/undock unless you have an ADC. See, the plot unfolded.
