PSA: remeber the rule "don't play on patch day"!

Usually its a challenge to get the game downloaded, installed and logged in on patch day. After you get through the hurdle of the tediously slow downloads, the install is relatively quick, but the servers are hung over and getting connected is irksome. Generally, if you give it until later in the evening its worked itself out.

And it'll be down again on Wednesday or Thursday to fix some of the showstopper bugs that tomorrow's patch installs. It's going to be weekend before the game is properly playable again.

Thank you!
Well - I don't expect to be able to play anyway, because I am living 2 hours (including DST) ahead from UK, so if they start to work around 9am, it is alreay 11am here. Add around 6 hours, it is 5pm or even later if they need more time. No idea when the download will work, but it will take its time. So I expect being able to play around 8pm or later, and then I will have no time to play...

Ya know you'd think after this many years, Fdev would have the patch services separate from the game services, not to mention the log in services.

Remeber: tomorrow just download the patch... Don't even try to play the game! Don't force me to come here and say: I TOLD YOU!

Yep good advice. Being where I am, I usually can't download until most ppl in the world already have. I need to fix something: I TOLD YOU SO !!!
[ that's how the grandkids say it ]

Nah, the only thing I definitely wouldn't try would be Neutron jumping, especially in any mode that isn't Solo. Wouldn't do it at all tbh, at least not until the dust settled and everything is stable.

Nothing beats a Server disconnect (pick your favorite) while in the middle of a Jet Cone :p

Care to give reasons? Or an example?
Not everybody has the game for years...
Thanks.

Because:

1. On patch day, you've got the 500 players with 9 accounts each all downloading the patch at the same time for all their accounts, plus all the normal people trying to download the patch at the same time, so the download usually takes forever, often stalls or fails a few times.

2. On Patch Day, the servers tend to suck because of #1, so we load up the forums with "The servers suck" threads.

3. On Patch Day, you often discover that in-house testing is performed by a blind guy, a deaf guy and a guy with no fingers, and thus has at least one glaring bug, which in turn reveals or revives at least 3 old bugs long thought squashed in parts of the game that have nothing at all to do with the patch, due to spaghetti-in-a-blender coding.

Examples:

Every patch since 2.3

Last time there was a "goldrush" for tagging.. pretty much the same as getting there on launch of a new mmo to reserve a character name.

Did it a few times in the past (/facepalm) and it was kinda exciting to watch the stream, push through all the server crashes and go for a handful of systems planned out the week before :)

🧐 I have no time to play, I'm waiting for the new update to arrive here at Explorer's Anchorage to inspect it properly

True, but people will still try to play, will create several threads of "servers are down", "servers are crap", "fdev what the hell", and then Wednesday will come and all will be forgotten and we will be playing normally.
