Chasing a Bulk Cargo Ship

Hi, I'm on my way to Colonia (suffering somewhat from PTSD from all the hyperspace tunnels I've seen) and noticed a Samson class cargo ship in one of the inhabited outposts on the way. However, when I supercruise to it, it immediately disappears once I arrive. The distance to it in the left-hand system panel is increasing by millions of light seconds every second.

Are these things supposed to be moving this fast? Do they stop somewhere, or is this a bug?

OK, I've raised a bug report.

It's disappointing to travel thousands of light years and encounter nothing, only to be hit with a bug when something shiny turns up. But, fingers crossed for today's update!

I'm disappointed this has never happened to me.

I've seen video's where planets, CZs and even stations whizz off into the distance but I've never seen it.
All I have noticed is that in supercruise POIs seem to drift off in one direction or the other and then, when I reach the safe-disengage distance, they seem to "snap" back into line - as if my ship has been drifting sideways and then suddenly straightened-up.

FWIW, I first noticed this happening when I arrived in Colonia, back in January, and it happened all the time while I was in Colonia.
Now I'm back in the bubble and it's not happening any more.

At a guess, it's like somebody has set up something about the Stellar Forge on the basis that the Bubble is the "centre" of the galaxy and that's put something else out of whack so that the further you go from the Bubble the more noticeable this becomes.

I've relatively new to Elite, but I'm getting increasing bemused why these blatant bugs are not quashed. I just don't understand it. They aren't just rough edges around the gameplay, but broken gameplay. <shrug>

You'll get used to it.

The main thing to realise, in ED, is that nothing is a "once in a lifetime" thing so you don't need to be too upset when you miss out on something.
Something similar will turn up eventually.

Also, the trick to enjoying ED is to have fun with the stuff that IS in the game, working properly, rather than worrying about stuff that isn't in the game or isn't working properly. :)
