So FDev have no backbone....figures

So after all the whining and crying from the 'leet pvp' crowd FDev are reverting what was potentially the biggest shake up to the stagnant PvP meta!

The drag changes made no difference from what I could tell to the ganking of non pvp focussed pilots yet would actually change the pvp meta a fair bit. A meta that is mechanically stagnant simply because the boost mechanics override some simple concepts around ship size, agility and speed. This change actually had the opportunity to push some limits on the mechanics.

But rather than let it play out and let the smart players (you know the ones who adapt to change and get better) come up with different tactics FDev lay over and present their bellies to the whining and crying of the current PvP meta hogs..... Ah well I had hopes for FDev but they are being slowly crushed like more and more of the opportunity to come up with interesting ways to play differently in ED.

I guess ED, as I have suspected for a long time, is not designed to be competitive in a PvP sense but rather co-operative. Which is fine if that's what they want but please just say so and stop jerking or tiptoeing around the subject...

Bad news my friend: it turns out that those players which I emboldened are the ones who got the decision reversed. Your welcome.

It was the right thing to do, filling & emptying a big cargo hold A-B trading while repairing stations was pretty frustrating.

The Drag thing was a no-brainer too.

I may be missing something but what has the A-B trading got to do with the drag revert?

There was some rather less contentious feedback on more topics than just the drag effect. That they were also acknowledged suggests most of the efforts surrounding the Drag Queens was unnecessary.

With fans like these.....who needs enemies?

Seriously, I'm not joking. FD can't win no matter what they do.

Whiners: Wah, FD never listens to us (tears). Why don't they listen to the community more? At least those other guys who make that Star Ranger Citizen Wing Battalion Commander game listen to their community.

FD: Ok we listened to community and decided to reverse the changes based on the feedback received

Whiners: LOOK! FDev has no backbone.

You can't have it both ways. I would rather have them listening and receptive to the community and being accused of not having a backbone than the alternative.

You're an FA Off all the time guy: how on Earth could you of all people consider the drag changes a good idea?

To be completely open and honest I couldn't care less about the changes either way.

I have had a long belief that the boost mechanics in ED is what causes the disparity within the ship class/sizes etc as they simply allow fatter/bigger ships to totally outperform the smaller so called more agile/fast ships.
The changes actually had an opportunity to affect this. As an FA-off I'm acutely aware of how the flight mechanisms are messed up by the boost mechanics and having a much bigger/heavier ship out turn and out pace a smaller supposed faster and more agile ship because of it I find simply lazy from a development point of view.

I'm not calling out FDev because they reverted the change. I'm calling them out because they haven't given the smart players the opportunity to try and figure out how to change with the mew mechanics (ones which I do believe would be healthier for the game in general). once it had been out for a while and new meta options devised then, if they found that it was a bad change, go revert or change something else. But just giving up on the whining and crying is sad TBH.

And that has any relevance because? As they say in debating terms attack the argument not the messenger.

Oh you are one of 'those' player eh :D

I’m sorry, maybe I was misunderstood. I didn’t mean to sound like I was attacking you. The reason I asked is because you wrote about shaking up the current PvP meta. I think it’s important to know what level of experience you have with the current PvP meta. If you just state which PvP faction you fly with, it would be a little more clear how qualified you are to talk about the current PvP.

I’ll go first. I’m with Newton’s Fusiliers on Xbox and Continuum on PC.

Ah gotya. I'm glad they are looking at the other stuff as well but by far the vast majority of the complaints I've seen (I read the forums too much I know) was about the drag effects.
Was the change needed? IMO not needed but hey have missed an excellent opportunity to test something out (without biasing it) and if it doesn't work then they can revert and be seen to listen....

Listening and being receptive is a good thing....

However....

They obviously saw and opportunity to shake things up a bit and did so. But rather than letting to roll out a bit and see what developed from it they instead listened to the biggest crying and reverted back almost instantly... this IMO is worse than doing the change originally.

Now all they have done is set a precident to have potentially beneficial changes 'shouted down' because some people don't like it and can't adapt. It's usually an early indicator that the game is going to start down a slippery slope.

I like ideas to be tested by an opponent that can act as a capable Devil's Advocate. If an idea meets some criteria but also has some downsides those downsides should be weighed up to see whether they present a big enough downside that the idea should be dismissed in favour of a better solution (or inaction).

There have been some questionable decisions that have come out of FDev over the past couple of updates that really should never have reached the live game. The Drag mod change was one of those ideas that has some merit but is critically flawed (imo obviously, I accept that you disagree).

That's what betas are for.

Possibly, or it could make them more careful with bad ideas. May work either way (not saying it was a bad idea, I've got practically no PVP experience).
