Over Reliance on Fan Mods

Whenever I play this game, I am required to use internet resources. Why aren't these resources built into the game by now? I don't mean accessing the site from inside the game, I mean why hasn't the UI been updated to include the information to make the sites redundant?

When fans create mods, that's the actual people playing your game that are coming up with improvements. Imagine what improvements we'd come up with, if we weren't spending time on years old mods.

Probably - but I'm curious - there's none of those tools I can't do without - in fact I actively avoid using them except out of curiosity - it's a little like cheating if you ask me!

It's like living in a galaxy that didn't invent the database. Every station uses the same software, every ship uses the same interface, but but nobody uses the same trading database? There are only two dozen people skilled enough to tweak a spaceship but the whole galaxy has no idea what resources are required without flying directly to them to ask?

I really need to go and scan a discovered system to understand the composition of the planets therein? Do I just look at the star type and expect certain planets types to be there? We've not even got a moon colony, and I can give you broad strokes about the likely composition of planets in HIP 90365.

It's maddening.

Because flying your ship to go and gather the information is not a flaw of the game, something the devs didn't think to do: it is a deliberate part of it.

It's like living in a galaxy that didn't invent the database.

And it's glorious. Then again I do miss the 90s.

The funny thing is when you jump 78 ly into the first inhabited system from a 6 month trip in the Black you get waylaid by an AI pirate that says... "hmmm the rumours were true" now, who in hells name told them where I'd be?

Communication signals travel at the speed of light so you would have to wait several years for your database to load.
And yet, when you sell your Cartographic data, how quickly does everyone get that? Also, the new patch adds a bit more of this type of info showing that it isn't really a lore reason, it's just missing.

I'm betting that you'd use an 'external resource' to find that out, namely the internet. FD could spend their time creating a special future-internet built-in to the game or just let people do what they do now, compile/lookup information on the actual internet.

@OP: They are built in the game to at least a degree - the internet resources just present the information in a different form that is more easy to use because they are not constrained by game UIs.
