This is what happens after a few thousand years of man-seed being immersed in salt.
I dunno seems pretty real. Not everyone looks like a supermodel. There are some good looking NPCs out there, but I'll refrain from posting since the last time a thread turned into an NPC beauty contest it got closed.
It's not even that the NPCs are ugly. Even the decently good-looking ones look like products of the Jim Henson Creature Shop.
No, I take that back. Products of the Jim Henson Creature Shop look a lot more realistic and believable.
I had just one handsome pilot....
Rocco...Big, butch, bonking Rocco with his southern drawl and weathered complexion....
Then I woke up in front of my controls one morning and found myself looking at a rebuy screen and no Rocco....

If you think pilots are bad, just have a good long look in the passenger lounge. Seriously, was there a napalm acid attack in there?

I think elite needs to be more realistic. When I’m out and about in real life I see a good mix of normal and beautiful people. On elite however, 99% of its people are completely ugly. There needs to be a balance.
Most NPC crew being hideous adds greatly to my sense of immersion.
No one having black hair is rather odd though, since it's dominant trait. The Elite universe must have had some sort of dark age where people with dark hair were rounded up and burnt at the stake or something, or maybe a resurgence of racist eugenics.

This thread makes me feel a lot less shallow then I felt when I spent alot of time checking crew lounge after crew lounge until I found a "harmless" ranked pilot that didn't make me want to beat them with the ugly stick.
I mean, I am probably still in the shallow end of the pool, but at least I'm not alone over here.
And thanks @Morbad for that information about black hair....I didn't realize that and have still continued looking at crew lounge after crew lounge because looking for someone who is neither ugly and has black hair. They really need to fix that....

You forgot all the ones from Star Trek Discovery!Someone finally said it, I'm glad. At this point I would settle for unattractive but not weird looking NPCs, because right now many of them just look flat out strange. I'm telling you right now that ED doesn't hold a candle to Star Trek, we need to fix this!

Even if you do find one that isn't suffering the detrimental effects of gamma particle radiation, updates tend to change the faces again anyway.
