What unconventional things have you done in ED?

I have a Type-10 outfitted for mining. While it is slow and bulky, if any pirates come along all I have to do is deploy my turreted weapons and keep mining. She's called the
Blaenau Ffestiniog - which was home to the largest underground slate mine in the world. I like my ships to have meaningful names.

Well, I'll soon finish hauling an empty size 6 Luxury passenger cabin to Beagle Point. Haven't seen one of those on any "exploration build" guides, but my Beluga is also my CMDR's personal yacht, it always has a Luxury cabin onboard (and a few other non-exploration features, such as size 6 thermal-resist prismatics, armour, and full armament). Still manages 47ly, amazing what a size 7 FSD will shift.

Notoriety 10 by popping NPCs in Imp space. Back home now and will have to lay low for about 20 hours, which shouldn't be too difficult given my CMDR is usually a goody-two-shoes.

Using standard T9, max out on cargo space for gold/silver buying/selling between 2 very near stations without going through any mission. Each round trip would earn about 1 million credit.

To avoid slow T9 launch on return trips, I switched to a sidewinder to do the job. When sidewinder arrives at the supply station, I do a T9 ship transfer, then do something else while waiting for ship to arrives.

With more credits, I got two sets of T9/sidewinder so I can criss cross transferring ships without waiting time.

All just to avoid being chased by pirates doing a real mission carrying goods. In case I get a warning message that I'm about to be interdicted, I would stop / start supercruise to fool the pirate ship till I reach the station.

Did that for months, when my shooting was really bad. Boring and not the best way to make credit.. at least my ship is not being blown up after getting used to these routine.

Hmmmm...Unconventional...

I'm loving my PvP Sidewinder if that counts?

Oh I almost forgot.

Yesterday at Jameson's noticed some Cmdr attacking other players just outside the no fire zone. So I decided to check it out and took my shield less hulltank Sidey.

He didn't waste any time and attacked when I got closer, so I deployed hardpoints... Forgetting that I swapped them to another ship earlier.

Just about got a "pew pew!" typed through comms before he one shotted my PP.

He better not mess with me again.

Two Christmases ago I outfitted a sidewinder with xmas lights, gave it a nice paintjob, called it Rudolph and went into open in the CG areas, buzzing around griefers shouting Ho Ho Ho at them while they struggled to shoot me, fun times

Congrats for your first DD post, how does it feel? And also, where is your damn sig Pilot??? Show your colors and be proud of what you fly besides your murder-sidey :D

Today I went to Puppis Sector TO-R b4-4 A 4 B Ring, which is ~12,66 ly from Shinrarta Dezhra. Just around the corner. The system contains a ringed planet that showed up at EDDB as pristine, however scanning it I found no hotspots. Mining it wasn't exactly the fat of the land, but I found Alexandrite cores and had I been looking for Bromelite, it would have been quite a juicy ring.

And one that you can also obtain from your ship, without the consequent worries of how to return to said ship. :p:D
Well yes, but that wouldn't be unconventional ;)

I once flew a ship in realspace from one landable planet to another just to see what would happen. It took about three hours, most of which was FA-off with the thrusters disabled. I landed no problem, deployed my SRV on the second planet & the game crashed shortly after. Not tried it again to see if it was a fluke (because it took three hours ;)).

That seems like a remarkably short amount of time to me, all things considered. It took about 3 times that amount of time to try and supercruise to Alioth, for example. Was this from a planet to a close moon or in a binary system? Sounds like a bit of fun either way. Might have to give it a go myself sometime as well. :) Cheers.

Just looked back to find the planets & I'm pretty sure it was FACHIE JP-G C27-6 but in-game it says I haven't been there & can't access the system map to verify. I only have screengrabs from the planet I left, but I have this:

ETA it was a typo on my part, the system was FACHIAE JP-G C27-6.
