QoL upgrades coming for Elite Dangerous

Hey CMDRs !

with the last update that came out the 23th of april we've seen some nice QoL stuff for new & old players (main menu, nav panel, commodities market, new stuff in CODEX, etc.).

I wasn't expecting these and was quite pleased with them so it made me think of which QoL upgrades could benefit both new & old players in the future :

- BOOKMARKS : an overhaul of the bookmarks system is long overdue : it's just a total mess actually. It could be such an amazing and powerful tool if we could create different kind of bookmarks, organize them, filter them and share them. Bookmarks that could also direct to specific planetary coordinates (would help to organize group events meetings, races, etc.).

- OUTFITTING : not very user friendly, we can't save specific builds and apply them quickly to a ship, stored modules management is simply non-existent...there is a lot of room for improvement.

- LIVERY & STORE : I still don't understand why both of them are so primitive lol - Do you want payers to buy stuff FDev !?
We can't even change the POV in livery so it is very hard to clearly see some changes without having to go to surface and turn around our ship with free camera - free camera around a large ship in the hangar is nearly impossible.
The store...well...lol...I'm pretty sure that a more easy to use and appealing interface would increase FDev sales by 10%.

What are your thoughts ? What would you like to see for QoL before the next era ?

I'll second your QoL proposals.
I also want to see the FSS Signals as a bar in the HUD after scan, there are screen manips which show that.
A mapping for "request docking" would be awesome.

Good points !

It makes me think about something that would be really usefull when scanning planets with the FSS. When a planet have POIs it should add a tag on it in the system map with the qty and type of POIs because once you've scanned a 20-30 bodies system in the FSS it's really hard to find which one had POIs...

This ^

Fit your ship out, save it and commit to store, then insta equip it assuming the items are in your station store. Would mean you could refit your ship for specific tasks without the ball ache of having to go through every module.

Frankly, I'm pretty stunned this isn't in the game.

Yeah me too...it can be god damn long to fit a new build on ship actually...

how about a little dot under the radar contacts you have already scanned?
when i am scanning ships, for example bounty hunting in a RES or powerplay in a system to destroy transports,
i often target ships i have already scanned bexause it is hard to see which status is known and which not

fancier bookmarks, yay!

the rest looks pretty meh. if your build is so complex you already bought into the full skinner box, the effort of actually equiping that gear is nowhere significant, why waste a single dev hour on this? and livery, well, couldn't care less, honestly. wouldn't buy it even if frontier got them right, which they don't. so just let's all sing along! :D

The best QoL update they could do right now for me personally is concentrate on the ammount of bugs that have accumulated over the years.
More new features means even more bugs.

dude, be realistic ...

frontier is quick to claim prize for any shiny but shy taking responsibility of their own code. it's a millenial corp.

What about QoL upgrades + bug fixing ? ;)

We all know that bugs need to be fixed but that wasn't the subject of this topic. You have the Issue tracker to do it now :p

1. Bookmarks need major overhaul. Naming, sorting, assigning custom tags, filters, etc.
2. Skin store ... useless feature. Why bother and spend money on the skins, when you cannot conveniently examine your ships exterior? External camera is awkward, main menu is static and rare, outfitting screen is ... not fitting.

They plainly don't want to sell any skins.
Price is too high and why anyone would want them? ED community is not the same as TF2 community, they would not pay full game' s price for hat, that they can barely see at all.

To give ship skins some value they should add a demo room, which shows your ships slowly rotating on platform under the limelights, or dynamic chase camera. Or ability to save flights as demos with dynamic external camera and effects. Or everything mentioned at once.

+1 for better bookmarks.

I'm also for better module storage and an in-game Neutron Highway route plotter that can match Spansh's effectiveness.

But TBH I'm not holding my breath in expectation of anything that would require a significant - or for that matter a modest - amount of programming.

Good point for the in-game neutron higway route plotter !!! I never used it because it's clumsy and kind of hard to use without external tools...

Regarding bookmarks, they should also be selectable in the left hand nav panel. Add a button that opens a list of your various bookmarks without the need to open the galaxy map. There is plenty of space under the filters button (maybe they are already planning it?):

The game should also allow us to directly plot a route to the target system from missions in the transactions tab.

Those I could truly enjoy!
Not too bothered about storing loadouts, but it would be useful on occasion, still working toward 'one ship, one job'
