i have a feeling that if this thread had a poll ASUS would be the clear winner, now all the OP has to do is decide what type of board? a top level board such as the sabre-tooth? or a more entry level board?

then there is the AMD/Intel CPU question to answer.

I don't see any point of going for cheap. It's never a saving in the long run. Save a bit longer and get something worth having

As I said my current machine has been going strong since 2007. A decent MB and case, the rest can be added or changed as needed and budget allows.

As for the AMD/Intel, that really would need to be another thread, not least because it seems as much popularity as anything else.

Added a poll to make future reference easier for others.

I'm jumpin' in with the crowd on this one: ASUS all the way!

I've built many, many systems, and the ASUS based builds are the ones that seem to do best. Great performance, rock solid reliability... I hadn't even given it much thought, but I seem to gravitate towards ASUS subconsciously for these reasons.

ASRock are interesting. They've had some duffers, but they've also had some belting budget bargains. Worth keeping an eye on, but definitely research before buying.

Do ABit still even exist any more??

Agree with Patrick all manufacturer in the poll are good :)
I am also agreeing with their comments. It is hard to choose a best motherboard, let alone a best brand. I have used both Gigabyte and Asus boards.

Also, I am thinking about building a new computer using either the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H or the Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark1, both can be found on this motherboard comparison: ttgreviews.hubpages.com/hub/best-gaming-motherboards-2. What do you guys think?

Which Motherboard is Best?

Its a moving target. All of the vendors listed are top tier vendors and they all make good boards and they have all made boards that were dogs at one time or another. The best thing to do is to read CURRENT reviews when you are considering a purchase and choose from among the current crop. You should determine your needs and choose the board that best meets them. Not the other way around.
