Exploration data affect on expansion

I've been testing it a bit and can't find any affect it has but I thought I would ask. Has anyone found out if selling exploration during expansions have any affect at all?

There's some evidence that in a normal expansion selling exploration data can increase your starting influence in the destination system.

Not an easy thing to do controlled tests on, however.

In 3.2 it definitely worked - not seen evidence in 3.3 - either way.
