Re: Deciat - CMDR Killer on the loose

He was looking for an easy kill. Was upset because it wasn't an easy kill, called cheater. Doesn't sound like someone welcoming PvP.

Yes, you fly you die. Running from legit PvP is running from legit PvP. The act is indistinguishable from the same act for other reasons. Running is running. Perhaps it's the way you presented the question. It seems the forum is rife with videos of gankers running from legit PvP.

And someone running from it, which is what you asked for.

Also, is calling in your boys "PvP" or is it WvP (wing vs player)?
That is a video of Harry Potter, one of the most prolific pvpers and gankers on Elite, getting understandabley frustrated with what he thought was a mostly harmless conda. However, he still fought the Conda till he was almost dead, then high waked. I admit, the whole situation is shameful but that is not at all what I was asking.

I said show me a video of a ganker leaving and refusing to take part in pvp and all you've shown me is a ganker losing a PvP battle. Not sure how much clearer I can be.

He thought it was an easy kill but he kept fighting anyways and to you it's "a ganker runs when it's not an easy kill". Get outta here with that garbage.

So if Aashenfox were to pull a wanted ganker and then high wake once he realized he was losing the battle, would that mean that Aashenfox is just a ganker that runs when it's not an easy target?
(Sorry to drag you into this, fox)

How this constitutes good gameplay is beyond me. Another big tick in my list of 'reasons never to play ED again'.

Everyone gets something different from the game and you don't need to understand the motive-reward cycle for anyone other than yourself.

If one finds that another's legitimate (in the sense of being allowable by Frontier) behavior is intolerable, the game provides equally legitimate ways to avoid directly encountering it. If someone does not avail themselves of these options, they have opted in to any and all player/CMDR actions that fall within the bounds of the EULA/ToS.

Of the hundreds of gankers that I know, I don't know a single guy that would run from a legit PvP fight. I think the players you're describing are boogymen that you and many others have created.
Try again

It’s really hard to get good when you’re at a massive disadvantage technology wise. An A-Rated non engineered Cobra doesn’t last long against a fully engineered FDL. I don’t really care if someone wants to hang around a facility and then just take out much inferior ships (piloted by players whom most likely haven’t had as much time to hone their piloting skills) I just don’t see what the enjoyment is?

Threads like these, mostly. It's the rending of garments, the gnashing of teeth, and the accompanying notoriety.

If that's the way you feel then don't play in open until you've finished unlocking all the necessary engineers.

Maybe I came across wrong, I’m not moaning about it, and I’m not saying it’s not a valid play style. I’m just trying to see the reasoning. Is it the chance that you’ll come up against a decent PVPer who’ll test your skills? Or is it an addictive feeling of total superiority?

I'd say it's much more "I'm pretending to be a spaceman in the future, probably shouldn't take this too seriously", combined with "hey when I press this button, LAZORS come out!"

I do not kill other players in Elite (but it's probably about time, really). Waaay back in the day though, I played Urban Dead, a zombie browser-based game so simple you had to manually refresh the turn sequence. The simplicity however, allowed a large number of player-created playstyle profiles to emerge, including the infamous Player Killer format.

I played all kinds of chars there - dangerous but noble monster (hence the main nick I still use to this day, raaaa :E ), super-helpful goodguy - but one fave was my PKer, who in public was the nicest, friendliest nurse ever. But she also taught people to NEVER NEVER NEVER SLEEP ALONE. She was a mercy killer, and it didn't matter about levels or nuthin; don't sleep alone, especially if you're wounded. The tools of the game allowed me to play that kind of char, and it wasn't against the rules. That's as simple as it needs to be.

Dislcaimer: I am not a PvPer

People who drag race want the best machines they can strap themselves into, if there's some weight they can shed or power they can acquire, they want it. I think people who PvP almost exclusively want to ride in the baddest platform in the galaxy. Ship modding is part of the fun.

It's both the chance that I'll come up against a challenging pvper and it's also to get the "good guy" or police pvpers to come after me.
To me it's an awesome way to challenge the police players to see if they can save the player I'm attempting to gank and defeat me as well as challenging myself to see if I can gank someone and be able to defeat the police players.

Can i haz your stuff?

. Ok, fair call. I think. Maybe not. Any road.... its like this.

My thoughts are to get rid of solo and private modes and have open only. Don't argue with me, I ain't changing my mind.

As for the rest. Man we should be doing our thing in a baaaadddd place, with bad people trying to kill you, all the time, in many ways. Otherwise its just meh, no real adrenaline rush, no boasting rights, no effort to improve builds, learn new things, seek out and explore new civilisations... sorry carried away there.

I'm so close to going to the dark side in this game for no other reason than to get some excitement. Can't be right, can it?

For me it was being tired of playing Space Jesus Space Heroes (Halo, Mass Effect) and just deciding to shoot down everyone I could to see what happened.

Now I'm in a used ship salesman out in the boonies!

First off lets tone down the insults, act like an adult please... my gameplay is just as valid as every other persons in this game.

HP has a real point here. His gameplay is as valid as mine, you don't like dying in open, ok, die somewhere else. 'Cept you won't, you won't get the same thrill watching the radar, monitoring chat or the Ctl B feed. Open is visceral, makes you play as a human, not solo as a robot.
