Create Useless Fiction email subscription list

We've just started receiving GalNet emails via the Elite Dangerous Newsletter subscription. Can we create a GalNet Bulletins subscription list so I can remove myself from it and thus still get the actual Newletters which tell us about the game's construction?

I'm on the Newletter subscription to get reality on progress, not some random fiction which is just pfaffing about. If I want made-up rubbish I'll go watch some politicians on TV.

Thanks.

Really, was this post necessary? FD goes an extra mile to bring some depth to the game, an extra mile that a lot of developers don't go. Some of us enjoy this "rubbish" and appreciate FD for taking that extra step. You could have easily submitted a support ticket, or left the second bit of rubbish off of your post and just left it as a request.

Whilst the manner of the delivery leaves a lot to be desired, I guess with a join date of Nov 2013 and 2 posts, the OP might be waiting on release to play and thus they would like a way to Opt out of the in game event material.

Fortunately RedZedd has provided the OP with the way to do so.

Fiction, yes. Random, no. The Galnet emails are mirroring in-game events and hinting at things to come, and have been more frequent recently to coincide with the 30th anniversary roll-out of beta 2.

Galnet will be a part of the game play if you didn't know that already. The news will be a great part of what's happening in the Elite world, it would change events and trigger missions , so the game never get stale. Politicans may be rubbish but it's good to know what sort of rubbish they say cos ... they do impact your part of the world unless you live in a forest.

For me I follow the Galnet news on their website under "News" there is a Galnet link on the drop down. You don't have to subscribe to the news letter to read the news.

I don't think they will send emails as often as they are now especially once the in game news feed is active, however i do agree people like to get their news in different was and not get 'spammed' with emails.
There are plenty of other avenues like twitter/facebook/forums/ED website without sending people direct messages all the time.

My main gripe so far is i don't know who or what to follow to get official news, 90% of forum talk is speculation and the social media links on the ED website seem to be share links and not a way to follow them on that medium.
Hopefully with the new community manager we might get some official places to follow.

It's not "random fiction" and definitely not "rubbish". The GalNet bulletins mirror events that are actually happening in game, you would have known that if you were playing.

These will be part of the regular gameplay and source of information once the game is launched.

However as already suggested, you can always put a custom filter on your email and be done with it.

Makes more sense to follow established protocols and have that option in your online account. Everyone's used to being able to select what they get from online sources, this should be no different. The OP's request was overly harsh perhaps, but the request was sound. :)

Welcome to the forums!

You might want to talk a little more respectfull about it. It is definatly not rubbish and is part of the Elite galaxy. If you dont enjoy it then i wonder if the game is for you.

There have been what two of those, and we know from the 'actual' newsletter that they'll be in the game in six days.

So really you just took the time to post this thread in order to express a negative view on what you yourself see as an entirely on-the-side, superfluous in-universe fictional report, which you know is a brief nuisance if indeed it is that because you apparently do pay a lot of attention to the ordinary newsletters.

Science Fiction

Hey... at least we've got a game, and a little structural fiction adds depth. You should check out the "competition" (St*r Citizen) - all they've got IS fiction. Oh, sorry, "lore".

(Do I sound cynical? I didn't want to but I got slightly suckered by it all at first then began to wonder why so much energy was being expended on the 'background' when there was no significant signs of an actual game.)

Sorry to OP, but I can't approve that tone, so -1 from me. ED will have a lot more of story and this so it is quite important for many people. I personally have enjoyed last two alerts greatly, as writing and setup really comes together and gives glimpse on how ED will keep itself fresh.

As for not wanting to read such news - you can always unsubscribe. Newsletter is always announced on forums and other places, so it's not like you will miss them.

The tone of the OP is definitely off, but I do get the idea. I'd also prefer to read these sorts of in-game news actually within the game and not have the game break its own boundaries and invade my "civilian life". ;)

Good on you for expressing your opinion, unfortunately here in the 'House of FD' you will get jumped on by the fanboyz if you don't toe the party line or say nice things.

Wrong. You get told off if you say bad things with a nasty attitude. It is ok to criticize the game etc. as long as you do it as you would in normal face-to-face encounters (= certain politeness drawn from the fact that the person you are talking to might hit you in the face if you insult them).
