Re: Deciat - CMDR Killer on the loose

For me it was being tired of playing Space Jesus Space Heroes (Halo, Mass Effect) and just deciding to shoot down everyone I could to see what happened.

Now I'm in a used ship salesman out in the boonies!
Yeah, there's already 50 billion other games where I can be a hero; and in fact are forced to be the hero because there's not always the satisfying "badguy" ending available (still liked the one Evil playthrough of KOTOR where I killed my Jedi friends, had Big Z execute Mission cause he owed a lifedebt to me, AND hooked up with Evil Bastila to rule the galaxy).

And, since Elite has no ending at all except "I'm tired of pretending to be a spaceman", you really need to make your own motivations.

Speaking of, how is life out in the boonies? You're tempting me with a life of sin but I need moar details. Is there stuffs to do for and with real peoples? Will I miss the lap of luxury in the bubble?

Dislcaimer: I am not a PvPer

People who drag race want the best machines they can strap themselves into, if there's some weight they can shed or power they can acquire, they want it. I think people who PvP almost exclusively want to ride in the baddest platform in the galaxy. Ship modding is part of the fun.
Not necessarily. I've been pvping in an Orca lately and the only time I ever use a FDL is if it's a serious PvP war with a rival squadron. Most of the time I use ships to just goof around in.
I also enjoy the challenge of using ships that aren't commonly used. The Dropship has become one of my recent favorites.

Life is always grand out here at Fairly Reliable Phisto's! Say, you look like you could use a new ship today...

car salesman hat off

It's honestly a real blast. Small area you can get to know and a nice amount of Commander traffic. There's also some really interesting politics out here. Stuff has been stagnant for a while and our little adventure in Carcosa has shaken things up a bit.

Let me put it this way: we've got some of the most seasoned, experienced, and well rounded players in this game and they're all having the time of their lives.

My thoughts are to get rid of solo and private modes and have open only. Don't argue with me, I ain't changing my mind.
I get your point but "open only" will exclude a lot of players, including me. I have only very limited time to play elite except for when I am on long commutes, which means I am on very limited bandwidth. Solo is the only option for me. This has nothing to do with avoiding PvP, in fact I am at a point where I would like to try PvP.

I can't speak for True Phoenix but I know that myself and many other open only advocates do realize that the game would have to be drastically different for it to work. Although I would prefer this game be open only, I can clearly see it's just not possible.

As someone who has worked/lived in very remote places while getting paid to keep machines running, I think engineers in the bubble make total sense.

Necessity is the mother of invention type stuff.

They were already in the bubble. Why take a trip to Colonnia now and grind so their locale counterparts can homogenize gameplay in that part of the map is beyond my comprehension. But blaze your own trail. Anyway, it got its own topic, we can go back to Darth Vadder roleplayers.

You've obviously got the "I can attack people at will" part down. Why is it bad to do that to a pretend spaceship for others, but okay to do to the actual players IRL for you?

I dont know what you're on about... I know of only three Elite players IRL. Last time we drinked beers.

It's both the chance that I'll come up against a challenging pvper and it's also to get the "good guy" or police pvpers to come after me.
To me it's an awesome way to challenge the police players to see if they can save the player I'm attempting to gank and defeat me as well as challenging myself to see if I can gank someone and be able to defeat the police players.
I can agree with that perspective entirely, so it’s a legitimate play style. And I must admit, trying to run while your FSD is spooling all the while your shields are being decimated is a fun, or that moment someone takes out your thrusters one notch before the FSD kicks in. It makes the game less sterile.

Guess I need to get myself some dirty drives so I can at least give myself a better chance!
