Why so far away?

Ok, so I should have been more dilligent and noted where I was going to be placed when I chose the Sidewinder option rather than my old ship at the rebuy screen.
Aside from that lapse, I was trying to make sense of why choosing the Sidewinder placed me back in the bubble when I was destroyed in Colonia, and my last location was a major station just a few Lyrs away.
Has it always been thus?

It makes sense if you have no rebuy money (kinda), but in this instance with several billion in the bank its just inconvenient.

You took the loaner sidewinder, which puts you at starting point regardless of location.

Some will use this feature for a quick trip to the bubble by buying a Sidewinder, crashing it, then instead of rebuying said Sidewinder opting for the loaner one. I don't much care for the way it works, and don't think the loaner Sidewinder should be an option unless you have no credits or assets.

Maybe try a ticket to see if they'll put you back at Colonia, not sure how that would go down.

Ah, ok the loaner Sidewinder thing makes sense - overlooked that.
Yeah, I agree it shouldn't really be an option in the same way.
I might just take the opportunity to re-establish in the bubble - I can afford to transport my Asp explorer back here and leave my other ships in Colonia.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Oh, so it's always Trevithick Dock you start/end up at?
I always assumed there would be more than one starter system.

Tbh it was a rage-rebuy.
I had managed to evade several interdiction attempts on a cargo run and made it to the glide drop at the planetary base destination 1500Ls from the Sun - then connection error.
The re-load put me back at the sun, then interdiction, panic, and destruction.
I was very grumpy.
Probably need a break...before taking it all out on Thargoids.

It might be more economical to buy a new ship, rather than transport from Colonia. Then you have an alternative ship at Colonia when you want it.

Yeah, but I like my old Asp Explorer - it has character, chipped paint, engineered to the max...and I'd just know it was a different ship.
Money really isn't an issue. Time is.
