The Type-10 Defender's handling is so bad that its good

So after spending the last couple of days mining Void Opals I found my credit reserves not only restored, but positively overflowinng. So I decided to FINALLY give the Type-10 the shot I have been wanting to give it. I had waited up until now because it was a tremendous amount of money to outfit and I thought it was silly to put that much money into a ship that I was unsure about. But now that I have discovered the infinite credit train that is Deep Core mining that is no longer an issue. And so I traded in my Krait for a Type-10 and sweet mother of all that is holy the handling of the Type-10 is like a slap in the face with a particularly dense and hard to swing baseball bat. Its like flying a Cathedral with a Stadium tied to my back. Except the stadium seats are made of concentrated Neutron Star Material. Handling which was made all the worse by my own stupidity. I forgot to double check the station I was at had my engineered 7A DD thrusters. So I had to fly that monstrosity with 7E thrusters all the way back to Rhea. Which was a 9 jump trip. And don't even get me started on the Supercruise handling. The Type-10 doesn't turn. It orbits. If you blow past a station by accident you would have a quicker time just jumping to the next system and coming back for another try. (Okay not really, but it feels that way almost lol)

And you know what? I could not possibly care less. Despite her handling difficulties she is a genuine joy to fly. The insane lumbering way that she flies is honestly a bit endearing. Its unique. She feels like the first truly unique handling ship I have flown since I flew my Cutter for the first time. You can't just get in and go. You have to learn. And after so many endless hours in this game its nice to have to learn how to properly fly something again. The cockpit view is second to none in my opinion as well. Its like flying in a soap bubble. You see everything! I am looking forward to taking her mining tonight and getting the last of the money that I will need to fully outfit the rest of her and then this weekend I plan to take her into combat.

So how do you all feel about the Battle Cow? Does anyone else feel this way about the Type-10 and the way she handles or am I just a crazy person?

I'm guessing you've not flown a type 9 that much....The T10 is a veritable Viper by comparison. lol.

Honestly, for me, it's ok, the T10, in the right hands it can do some really impressive stuff.

Unfortunately your 7A DD thrusters won't make it any better (except for the docking and undocking).

I know it doesn't affect supercruise. But I had to stop along the way for fuel because I also forgot to buy a fuel scoop lol So it was a painful trip

My DD thrusters now make it feel INFINITELY better than it did before.

I've got a mining type 10 and really enjoy it. I've flown a number of ships for mining, and while i would prefer a type 9 for the job, the type 9's bizarrely low MLF just kills it for me.

I like killing wanted ships in hazres. And my concern was kind of "how can I evade incoming damage with such slow turning and big ship?". The answer I've found out very quickly and it is: there's no need to evade damage, because it is just flying fortress, the only thing pilot need to do is to concentrate on a target and ignore the damage.
And, yeah, FD's approach to make so different ships is amazing, new ship - new tricks to learn.

At first, I thought the handling of the T10 was "okay for a big ship".
Then I flew one to Beagle Point.
After an hour I thought it was a barge.
After a week I thought it was normal.
After I got back, I thought my DBX handled like a flea on speed.

Honestly, I kind of wish all big ships handled a bit more like the T10.

Thing is, right now there's no major penalty for flying a big ship so you end up with a ship that can haul a squillion tonnes of cargo, or be armored until it's like flying an anvil made of depleted uranium, and you'll still be able to engage in combat with Pythons and Kraits without many problems.

The T10 was the first ship that I tried to turn into a combat ship and thought "Y'know, I really need to use turrets on this thing".
Fitting regular weapons, even gimbals, just doesn't work because you can't keep it pointed at your target long enough to explode them.

For the T10 (and, possibly, do something similar for the Anaconda), I'd like to see FDev do something a bit bonkers like, perhaps, give it 3x C4 hardpoints (2 on top and one underneath) and then scale-up all the other hardpoints as well so that it could deliver similar DPS with turrets that competitors can deliver using fixed/gimballed weapons - and, obviously, create turreted C4 weapons to fit to it.
Then, maybe make it even slower, and less agile than it is now.
It does, after all, use the same thrusters as the T9 and yet it's both bigger and heavier than a T9 so there's no obvious reason why it's faster and more agile.

Obviously, this'd all need testing to ensure it worked properly.
The objective would be to create a situation where fitting fixed/gimballed weapons would mean you got your butt kicked by a Cutter/Corvette but where fitting turrets would create a fair fight.
We'd end up with 2 distinctly different types of "warship" - there'd be the Cutter and Corvette, which would be a bit like naval Destroyers, and there'd be the Annie and T10, which'd be more like Battleships.

I loved the T10 when I first got one, spent a lot of time in it, engineered it up real nice. Over time I've moved on to other ships, but I still have my T10. One of these days I'll drag her out again. I think it's a great and very unique ship. Fricking huge, though. I always bump the tail on exit, too. :)

Try it with packhounds.

I should really put them back on mine and get a screenie.

I went with a full laser build because I already had all the engineered lasers stored away. Just a wall of laser bolts. I took the shields off a Conda quicker than I thought was possible. And then I have my SLF on top of that lol

Also I knew the T-10 had a MASSIVE Hulla dvantage over other ships, but it is downright laughable how chonky it is.

Wouldn't mine with anything else, handles smooth FA-OFF around the roids. Used to the T9 so SC handling doesn't bother me (although the T-10 has slightly worse handling then the T9 in SC)

If I want to drive a hulking 18 wheeler, I'll take the T-10, Sports car performance, I'll launch an SLF or jump into a racing eagle.

All in all a different style of flying, would be terrible if all the heavy ships handled like small/med ships.
