So there’s currently a Cmdr stuck in the slot, station defences having no affect, assumed he’s proving a point about cheats...

Again, people totally ignoring the fact that we've been here before and we will be here again.

Amazing how short the collective memory of this forum is.

If I logged into Elder Scrolls Online right now with a god mode character how long would it taker for a GM to boot me do you think? Same for WoW...

How long did it take FDev?

I agree with you on the here before will be again tho..

All this 9 pages (so far) of discussion has demonstrated is how screwed and petty the PC community is.

1) Cheat programs exist and people use them to get an unfair advantage over other players.
a) I can understand game aids helping out the poor player to get them on an even keel but downright cheat programs devalue the whole experience as the designers have designed it.
2) It ultimately shortens the lifetime attachment of players to the game
a) Cheaters no longer have any sort of challenge as they can do everything immediately. They scuttle off to other games (eventually)
b) Non cheaters now have a vertical cliff-face of skill required to hold their own fairly against the cheaters. They leave, dispirited that the game is full of cheaters
3) By highlighting cheating in this way, I am struggling to see what the original poster was trying to achieve. It'll drive the community to either 2a) or 2b).
4) Although not completely immune to cheating, this sort of continued behavior on PC will drive both the community and player-base to console or solo gameplay as the players wanting to avoid 2a) or 2b) will try other routes to get into the game.

As soon as the original protest streamer started his protest, he should have been reported to Frontier and then starved of publicity oxygen.

All gaming platforms (PC, Xbox & PS4) has their fair share of kiddies who get off on upsetting the apple-cart. Xbox and PS4 are more limited in what players can do. Unfortunately the PC player-base doesn't.

I'm not playing at the moment (on another long break due to a complete lack of interesting new content) but the fact that proven cheaters aren't rapidly given permabans is a depressing sign that FDev have given up on the game.

Anyone who has been online gaming long enough knows without any question that unhindered cheating is a guaranteed death for any game. We've seen it happen to hundreds of popular games in the last 15-20 years. Those that had developers who couldn't tackle the cheating died off and FDev are basically consigning Elite Dangerous to a single-player experience, or worse by not taking a very hard, no-exceptions official stance on banning cheaters. If you look at the longer-standing games that have survived online, they all have extremely aggressive, multi-stage anti-cheat systems backed up by human moderators - and the bans are swift and often permanent.

Actually, maybe the issue is that we do remember how long this stuff has been left to rot and people are just getting tired of the smell?

Then you might remember how last year FD killed the cheats for a good while?

Or you can go visit the cheat forums and read up on what happened during that time from the perspective of the cheaters. It makes an interesting read (sorry, for obvious reasons, can't provide the link).

Or they do ban waves instead of rapid fire bans that alert the cheat devs as to what tips them off.

Where i do think FD do go too lightly is the punishments. I understand they only reserve permabans for repeat cheaters.

Still, they have to be careful. I copped a ban from Paladins without using a cheat and had to make an appeal and lost access for 3 weeks, all due to a false report.

Well, we can only hope that it being made very public will allow the devs to look at what was going on code-wise and patch the game so it won't be so easy for people to do it in the future.

Hopefully it'll make it (again) to PCGamer or Rock Paper Shotgun. I'm not a PvP'er fanatic but I believe Power Play should be in open (since all players affecting things should be able to interact with each other) but seeing this sort of cheat puts players like myself at a huge disadvantage and really drives home the reason why lots of players use Solo mode only.

Do you have any idea how many REAL protests I ignore with ease?

A little self-centered is actually a good thing. All this bleeding heart bull feces is turning society into one big puddle of diarrhea, not fit for habitation. Grow backbones, look out for Number One, and don't put up with Number Two from anyone - Especially me. I don't.
George Carlin, is that you?

Typical Thatcherite.
Much better instead that we look out for ourselves and others. An MMO is a social experience. Societies can't survive if everyone just looks out for number one
