So there’s currently a Cmdr stuck in the slot, station defences having no affect, assumed he’s proving a point about cheats...

Here's an idea... give everyone a god mode switch that only works against other players.... everyone plays in open and you can opt in and out of PvP . Something like turning report crimes against me on / off ... just a thought ...

Well done to the guy, his experiment has/will accomplish(ed) several things...a lot more people than already knew, now know about the cheating...He will find out what Frontier ACTUALLY do about it, and will be able to report back... and lastly, all the important players are also talking about this (again),and there is no doubt this reached FD ears fast, as there are several discords where FD reps are present too. I think he's done us a service and I'll chip in to buy him another account if he gets banned.

Bet none of you thought you'd hear that from me...eh? :) Cheating is the worst thing in a video game, and doubly so in a multiplayer one. This needs sorted out yesterday.

Yes, I agree. That is why I actually support this guy's protest. Unlike Healies4Feelies, no one else is getting hurt (unless you kept trying to ram him to get out). If you see him blocking the port, you switch to solo, undock, and then go back to Open. He has harmed no one and clearly demonstrated the problem.

He could have just as easily put himself in god mode and blown up every ship that came near him in, or outside of, the dock. Instead, he just blocked the mail slot.

Where I've lost my patience with Frontier is that still don't publish reports showing number incidents reported, numbers of people banned, etc. We get nothing but "We are aware of the problem and apologize for the inconvenience..." PR junk. Ugh.

yes to all, not going to argue about semantics, but seems they still got something wrong.

They've got a lot wrong, and keep making mistakes. But... They've got a hell of a lot more stuff right. The wrong stuff is mainly minor irritations. And I'd include this cheat under that too.

There is still no other space game that I am aware of that offers what E: D does. Or even comes close.

I'm glad my being in large instances amuses you. I had good fun in them too. ;)

Right, you could argue it that way, and it's a fair argument. But the important part of that paragraph was that out of the tens of thousands of people who play this game, the guy blocking the station in one instance disturbs a very small portion of the playerbase. The instance he was in couldn't ever have more than a couple dozen people in it at once.

It's a very ineffectual "protest" and really just sounds like the guy wanted to be a putz and defend against criticism by painting it as something noble.

I was playing the game the day this "protest" happened, in open, and if I hadn't seen this thread I would not have known about it.

The number of players passing through Jameson over the course of a few hours in Open during prime time on a weekend is not huge relative to the size of the player base, but it's not insignificant either and it's about the most public way any protest could have been staged.

Even a couple hundred witnesses is a lot of word of mouth...well, a lot more than zero.

There are important players in this game? I knew about (some of) the self-important ones, but I wasn't aware that any were really so.
Someone needs to start their own YouTube channel called The Housewives of Elite Dangerous and feature the prima donnas of the game who seem to think their opinions are more important than everyone else's.

The existence of such players is a big reason I'm not playing much anymore.

Because sadly, FD eventually caves into them.

I prefer ESO because of the following:

When ZOS announced the changes to racial passives earlier this year, there was almost nothing but outcry. Bosmer players were nerfed to a ridiculous degree. But, ZOS nerfed them anyway, player's "feels" be damned.

That, my friend, is the sign of a strong dev' and GM.

FD, well... LOL

There certainly are some members in the community whose opinion I consider to be more important than others, as they have demonstrated to simply possess more knowledge, insight and experience about certain aspects of the game that leads credence and value to their opinion. For example, when Morbad posts about combat I tend to take notice without that damaging my admittedly fragile ego. :)

Sure, but it isn't an either/or situation. Cheating in a multiplayer game is a problem, ask anyone who liked the concept of DayZ. That FD has created a game that many, including me, obviously enjoy doesn't diminish the problematic nature of online cheating.

I've played many alpha games repleat with bugs and cheats. The community is usually annoyed at the developer - saying "fix this - or else". As an alpha, players complain hoping the issues are addressed upon final release. Here we have a game in full release with overtly game-breaking cheats not blocked by the software. That is a pretty awful situation.

Elite is not a competitive game with prize money or gifts as actual outcomes for game play, and given this latest demonstration, it never really could be. This sort of thing truly marks FDEV as lower tier developer. Hope they sort it out quick.

FD, well... LOL

Ignoring input isn't a sign of strength but weakness, being stubborn isn't a virtue. Acknowledging when other people may know better and as such can provide a better opinion is.

well, this thread is about the wrong bits who irritate other people.

this doesn't irritate me (au contraire), because i already realized years ago what sort of mmo elite is and what to expect. it was a huge let down, but not the end of the world.
this makes this situation around this late realization of many, albeit sad, somehow comical and still appropriate. frontier need to match up. either tech or marketing.

i doubt there is a solution in sight, but this is no doubt food for thought for them which is good because, afaik, they're planning an expansion of the game. one that you probably would like to go well and not have these problems.

There is still no other space game that I am aware of that offers what E: D does. Or even comes close.

that's not in question, nor does it change the issue.

i'm glad you're glad. it's still inconsequential and anecdotic.

Then you might remember how last year FD killed the cheats for a good while?

Or you can go visit the cheat forums and read up on what happened during that time from the perspective of the cheaters. It makes an interesting read (sorry, for obvious reasons, can't provide the link).

You mean... for about a week?

When 3.3 dropped, the hack tools broke. It took them 3 days to fix it and make it work again. It took FD about 3 weeks to make 3.3 work at all.

So what is intended perhaps from this activity is that the developer creates some magical way to address hacking. What will actually happen is that even more people will go find the cheat and use it. Then we'll have maybe even more demonstrations of shock and awe and whatever because if one childish fit is good then a hundred childish fits are even better.

A solution is just fine, doesn't have to be magical. There is no need to pretend there is absolutely no way to make it less easy to cheat than it is in ED.

no, he means the legendary g1-g5 roll exploit. it was a bug exploit that allowed players running around stocked with god rolls (rolls equivalent of gaining the lottery at that time), that was duly communicated to them and that they left unaddressed for half a year, and finally solved by patching the bug and removing the modules.

so, nothing whatsoever to do with this, but knights gonna knight. don't respond unless they add something funny or worth replying, they're just trying to derail.

keep the noise focused! :D
