Can you just fly to the next galaxy?

I am all for adding galaxies. Why? Because it allows FD to go ape with bizarre stellar forge settings without ruining anyone's immersion. New galaxy, new rules!
I don't think it's such a good idea. First of all, as Max Factor mentioned, we only explored 0.2% of the Milky Way, so adding another galaxy is pointless. Secondly, imagine the frame shift drive needed to jump over 2.5 million light years in one jump - taking into account that there are no stars in between the Milky Way and Andromeda, the nearest galaxy to the Milky Way.

Even if they come up with some "discovery" of a frame shift drive capable of jumping between galaxies, they would probably replace the traditional frame shift drives, allowing you to jump between the Bubble and Colonia in one jump, which would take away the immersion and the sense of how large the galaxy actually is.

Solution: Galactic Hyperdrive. And at least one additional optional slot again 😅

Haha. But still, they would probably need to create a new gigantic ship or something, to fit a 7,000,000C Fuel Tank inside. I wouldn't be surprised if this ship will be able to travel in systems too, which is basically teleportation and will take away the "exploration" from Elite.

1) No, it wouldn't be pointless. For the third time: it is not about adding more of the same planets, but about creating a new set of PG rules. A new galaxy could have dramatically different rules, creating completely different environments, that would not be possible in our galaxy.

2) No, you can just come up with any number of sci-fi solutions such as worm holes, guardian gates or whatever that allows you to jump from one part in our galaxy to one location in another. It would have zero impact on how exploration works in our galaxy.

Maybe, maybe something to do with Raxxla. But still, I'd prefer them improving our current galaxy, instead of creating a new one. We don't have as much information about Andromeda, so it's going to be hard to simulate too.

Is it still fitted with the size 1 fuel tank?
You can easily upgrade it in Hutton - but to do that, you have to refresh the instance so large landing pads appear - jump out of the system and jump back in again. Go to Hutton again, dock and viola - you gain access to all the modules and ships, with a 75% off discount. There is even a module which allows you to detach from your seat and walk around the ship. We actually had space legs all along, but just didn't know!

Edit: WOW! I found an Atmospheric Entry module at Hutton and I just tried landing onto Earth and I actually went through the atmosphere and landed in Brazil! It's so cool! WOW! Now I've opened a whole new level to the game! WOW!

"improving our current Galaxy" hahaha that sounds hilarious I don't know why.

Im all for a jump to another galaxy though. I completely agree with Skippy it's not about adding or improving what we have it's about adding something different as well! Nothing wrong with more content, improving what we have takes time, another galaxy could use the tools they already have. I reckon it's on the cards but maybe in a couple of years as the Thargoid story develops

Why don't you and Skippy team up and create a new game company called "Disaster Developments"? Your motto could be "Quantity over Quality" and there you could produce half-baked content but lots of it. I can already imagine you at an interview going: "There's nothing wrong with adding more content because improving takes time." :D

Have it as a fixed destination, one-shot module. That's essentially what it was in the original game, as I recall.
Okay, but what about the fuel tank? How much fuel capacity would you need for such a jump? And how would this be explained lore-wise? So we have modules that allow you to travel between galaxies in one jump, but we can't get from one side of a galaxy to the opposite side of the same galaxy without spending days doing tiny jumps? Doesn't sound right to me.

{shrug} same as the original game. You could only jump 7ly tops, but you could buy a one-use Galactic Hyperspace module to travel to a fixed star in the 'next' galaxy.

I found this wierd place called Rizzla and got my Intergalactic drive fitted on the courier, then jumped...

This place is strange... and it messed with my ship too

I always used to carry a 5000credit galactic hyperdrive in the original game. It was a get out of jail free card incase I ran out of fuel lol
