Micro-freezes & stutterings - Am I going crazy ?

If you ever need to squeeze extra horse power out of a PC then this certainly does what it says on the tin.

https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX216252

Its used for prepping citrix master images and basically removes all the unnecessary fluff from a Windows 10 build. However I have used it on old laptops and have been astonished by the performance and storage increase.

Just don't disable the device association service, they were wrong on that one. Otherwise it's pretty great really.
Ofcourse you also wouldn't disable BITS or Windows Updates because you are not building a citrix master image.

You'll be amazed with the amount of crap going on in the background.

Well worth a go if you have nothing else to lose.

I use Oculus Rift on a GTX 1060 3GB. I also use the Oculus Homeless patch, which replaces Oculus Home with a plain grey interface. The other day I noticed stuttering and saw that Oculus had updated, overwriting Homeless. Once I reinstalled the patch everything was back to normal. I've had similar issues when M$ "updated" my Nvidia driver. Some claim that Homeless is obsolete. That's not true :) I can highly recommend it if you have problems with FPS and stuttering:

EDIT: A few more:

If you have Nvidia Experience installed, and you don't need it badly, uninstall it using Windows Settings. A standalone updated driver works fine.

Some web pages Like Elite Fandom Wiki clutters the FPS.

If everything is running smoothly, entering the Galaxy Map while in a nebula etc. can cause stuttering. In that case I open System Map for a few seconds and look around until the stuttering disappears.

HOTAS software, like the one for X52 can also mess up. Again consider only using a driver.

Basically free as many resources as possible. Close unused software, and uninstall software you don't use.
Many thanks WeComeinPeace!
Carried out the instructions and it worked perfectly. I used to log out of oculus home and continue using the rift, as it’s just a monitor after all. But it does not allow that any longer. So anything to reduce unwanted GPU LOAD IS Always good.

Flimley

I have this as well, on an SLI 1070 since the upgrade, or possibly since the graphics card update. Not sure which.
time is limited so playing the game, rather than mucking around with Windows drivers and graphic settings, but always interested in solutions.

Hey all, I tried various stuff, mostly installing latest nVidia drivers, removing ThrottleStop & replacing with Intel XTU (just a slight undervolt).
It seems to be working better now. I had EDMC with EDR overlay which could have been a contributing factor (but not sure).
I also closed all running programs, mainly Mozarella Firefox which might have cause that as well (usually keeping it open for INARA).
YMMV but for those who experienced the issue, here are some clues you might try.
Cmdr HardTopNet, out.

I noticed that I was getting stutters pretty much every hyperspace jump for the first part of my journey to Beagle Point. They stopped about half-way, for no apparent reason. I do think they are network related, as my internet connection seems to be flaky since I moved over to Vodafone.

I had massive problems recently with framerate, stuttering, and audio pops/crackles. ED would be unplayable after an hour or so as the framerate was so bad. Updated every driver on my system, reinstalled the game, clean booted my system. Nothing worked. Had a ticket open with Frontier support for 3 weeks and they were as mystified as I was.

Turns out it was my wired Xbox One controller. Something in the driver was causing one of my CPU cores to max out at 100%. Switched to an old 360 controller I had and everything is fixed, no frame rate issues at all for me. Was so relieved when I finally worked out what the problem was, as I thought my PC was broken.

I think I figured out why the games stutters, at least in VR, but not the cause of it.

There is a setting in SteamVR called: Developer->"Do not fade to grid when app hangs"

This can cause VR to momentarily freeze instead of fading to grid. And the reason VR fades to the grid is because the game/application providing stereo textures isn't providing the textures on time. So as not to present an unappealing experience to the viewer, the headset fades to grid.

Your 1070 cannot be overvolted. You can overclock it, but all Pascal and Turing cards (1000 and 2000) cap at 1.093v which is pretty conservative.

Stock voltages on these parts can get pretty low and I have some where even 1.05v is a significant overvolt...and others where it's an undervolt.

1.093v is already too high to be practical on air as you'll hit the power limiter or just get too hot before you need that much voltage for the clocks you're at.

Here's a quick clip of the issue I'm experiencing. Tell me if you experience such a behaviour as well ?

Not getting anything like that in normal space...do get the occasional frame skip in SC, but that's been happening for almost five years.

Can you log your (per core) CPU and GPU utilization while playing?

Have you made any tweaks/adjustments to the OS, drivers, or game?

Here is a video of the CPU/GPU usage while stuttering happens.

I tried some tweaks because my computer is a laptop which tends to overheat quite quickly. I just tried undervolting a tad, but reverted to default just in case that would cause the issues I'm experiencing, which was not the case.
I also tried the Windows Power Management thingy (the performance slider within the power icon popup) to Better Performance and Best Performance. That didn't change a thing.
I didn't touch the GPU though. That was mostly all I did, nothing very fancy.

I have the exact same problem. Every 10 minutes or so the frame rate drops from 100fps+ to about 40fps and then after a second it is back to normal. Can happen anytime and doesn’t seem to be related to GPU load. I’m going to wait for the next patch as I suspect it is software related as never had a problem before the last update, similar to other people with this issue.
