Re: Fuel Scooping

I would like to help those who do not know of this feature with the fuel scoop.

I would fly at a speed that would allow me to fuel scoop round the star while trying to keep the heat build to a minimum.. finding that balance.. now I discovered that you don't need to.. you just aim towards the star and fly closer until your scoop is at max capacity then hit the X to kill your speed.. your temp will stay stable and the fuel scoop will keep collecting.. you don't need to fly around the star to collect.

I just didn't know this until yesterday.. learning all the time.. all the time

just wanted to pass this on to those who may not know this..

many thanks

What ship and what size scoop are you talking about though? I've not been very scientific about it myself but some setups are more effective at managing heat while scooping, than others.

mine is the python with a 176.00 fuel scoop. hit X as soon as you enter the system. point towards centre of star. move forward slowly until your scoop is at max then hit X again.. while your filling up you can concentrate on other things..

Yes, definitely go along with hitting zero throttle when you reach desired fuel scooping rate.
Not all ships can handle scooping at maximum rate, with any and all scoops and without heat up that's all.

Engineered (overcharged) PP will generate more heat though, surely?

Definitely, however not an issue for stationary scooping at max rate. If necessary shut a few things down, I don't keep the huge Plasmas on my Vette running unless I actually need them, when repositioning the ship I'll shut down non essentials. Same with things like KWS or Wake scanner on hot builds, lots of heat and power usage when running but not in use.

I've read somewhere that your heat shouldn't get above 64%. Under 64% it's stable, at 65% or higher it raises by itself until you literally burn.
Which ships reaches 65% at what distance/scoop factor/whatever is depending on the outfitting/engineering.

Works for me.

{nod} yeah, there'll be a balance point somewhere, but I personally prefer to dip in and out as fast as possible. Concentrating on other things while scooping is...unwise, in my opinion.

And, just for the sake of discussion, heading directly AT the star to get your scoop rate up does mean you're at least flirting with the star exclusion zone. I've hit some of those and it weren't pretty! lol

I am currently on a long exploration trip. I scoop while flying around a star and honking just so I can move faster. I also like the feeling of solar surfing/ sling-shotting around a star.

This is a good tip for builds that need smaller scoops though

yeah i dont think thats true at all. I usually stay at the distance of max fuel rate and just bug out if the heat gets to 80%

Found it. It's 66% if I read this correct.

I use the point at the star with no throttle method and have been using it almost from the start. While I'm pointing at the star I set it to scan if it's unknown for a little bit extra cash and discovery.

Have to watch out for interdictions as you have effectively submitted already.

3 years old, the heat mechanics have had a huge amount of changes and tweaks. surprisingly many of those tweaks never seem to be discussed on this forum.
