How about instead calculating how many hours enjoyed vs how many hours played?
I'd love to have the chance to buy some fruity pinks and pervy purples but I live in china so I can't.
Way too much money for a game, nudging a grand, but given the hours of game time I've had out of Elite, probably 2200-2400 hrs over 4 years, I always felt it was fair to keep throwing money over their till.

Couple hundred Euros through the years I think, maybe more.
However as more as the state of the game degraded the less I've spent in the store.
I didn't buy anything for months now and don't intend to either, not untill ED gets fixed.
Just bought Red Dead Redemption 2 and Sudden Strike for the Xbox One X, so I no problems spending my money elsewhere.

I'm waiting for my corrosive paint jobs on my spikey Cobra III to be fixed before I think about buying anything else.

Since the game is very pointedly NOT pay-to-win (yay!), and since it's also not subscription based (also yay!), I mentally stick £5 in a jar every month to represent what I would spend on a subscription. I then use that to buy stuff in the store to support the company. The problem is, I don't really like most of the colour schemes they come up with. And if I ever put a bobble-head or string lights in the cockpit of one of my ships I'd immediately blow it up.
Distracting fluff on my dashboard is definitely NOT my sort of thing.
I wish they'd add more stuff to the store. Even though I'm not fussed about what my avatar looks like, and I'll never buy any of those weird cockpit doodads, I still want them to keep making little things for people to buy. As long as they don't actually impact the gameplay at all, I'd rather choose to donate a few bucks to the company every month and get a new paintjob or something, then have them switch to even a low-cost subscription model - or dump the game altogether.
Even if I don't like the stuff they release in the store, hopefully other people will and that's good for all of us.

Oh, they've definitely failed at that thing. Probably no point trying to play with the whatchamacallit, because it isn't working, or it is working, whichever might be relevant. And frankly, I think FD's failure to address that problem with the whatnot and the doodah is just appalling, probably, and they need to fix or unfix it immediately.
That's a nice cat to scatter the kittens; but the answer would depend on how much time, we had to play, over how long we spend, when we can play; updating the game.
Excluding the 500 quid for DDF access in kickstarter, well got all the english voices, ship kits for sidewinder (no idea why), Cobra, Viper ... Asp..
2nd account with horizond and life time pass. A couple of voices, different paint -packs though.
3rd account with horizons (got that on a sale though. Nothing on this.
So about £350 - £400.
Given thats over 5 years, that is only 6 quid a month or a pint in my currency. I consider that quite good bang for buck.

I have a 42-year-old stereo amp and I use it still today after thousands and thousands of hours.
Yet at the time it cost me an kidney to acquire it.
I bought a bundle of ED and Horizons for about 45$, no ship skins, no bobbleheads, no alt accounts, nada. I feel proud.
