Leaving Colonia

After spending a very long time In Colonia I have decided to go back to the bubble. I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts of Colonia, why I think it's great and also why not so great:

1) The small size makes the entire region easily accessible, being allied to most all factions of note is great for running missions about the place

2) Having engineers and material traders only two or three hops from each other is great, and the engineers are getting better and better

3) As a base for exploring from or mining Colonia is better than anywhere.

4) Being in Colonia gives a different perspective of the game, that helps broaden the appeal, at least in my opinion

5) Less good is the lack of A rated modules. That is annoying

6) Then shipping stuff from the bubble gets really expensive, especially an A rated well equipped Corvette

7) Even if there was something you wanted from the bubble, quite frankly, you don't bother because while getting back to the bubble takes 30 seconds getting back to Colonia can be a drag. Especially if you've done it a few times before. And you thought forgetting limpets was a pain in the ass...

On the whole I think I'm now ready to change my perspective again and return to civilization- to change my game style. I really hope Colonia does expand and continues to do well, not least because I've got the best part of a billion credits of ships and modules stashed out there.

So I recommend everyone take a visit, you might end up staying a while, it's a part of the fun of just how big the game is.

Now, just to decide where to call home in the bubble...

I have one of my accounts, Flossy2, permanently at Colonia so that I can switch to playing there at any time - also useful for any Fuel Rats rescues nearer to there than the bubble. The whole reason of having more than one account was so that I could vary my game play or take part in any events without worrying about where I am in the Galaxy! :)

Multiple accounts especially when they go on sale at the Frontier Store. Then for me I can go exploring until I go nuts with a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the black going back to the bubble account for relief! Some of us players were never meant to explore.

It's retirement for my obsolete ships that have too much sentimental value to sell. It's also a very nice place for mining. Rings on a totally undiscovered system are certain to be pristine.

Sorry, I haven't been to Colonia yet. What do you mean by this? Why is getting back faster than going there?
You can (at any location with shipyard) buy a cheap ship, and kill yourself to respawn at the starter system (called "suicidewindering").

I have a couple fine ships docked in Colonia as well. I really like it out there. I'm planning to build a long-range Anaconda for Neutron Highway usage. With some practice they tell me I can make the journey to Colonia in just 2 or 3 hours. I hope it's true, because I'd like to go back and forth a bit :)

As said above, a suicidewinder gets you to the bubble. When I've done this was one of those occasions I wanted something specific.

For example, I joined Li Yong Rui faction from Colonia, waited a few weeks, suicide back, pay for merits to unlock Packhounds, then buy Anaconda outfit for exploration, fill as many hardpoints as possible with said Packhounds and return to Colonia.

By gathering exploration data on the way back you even generate a healthy profit on the whole trip. Bargain.

Oh, I thought you'd respawn at the last station. I really like the fact that Colonia is so far away. I always dreamed about a game in which travelling to another region would really require some preparation and take time. ED is the only game with such feature as far as I know. It makes it really an adventure, especially in the Open, when you have to watch out for gankers.

Yes, there are tons of gankers out in the black, hiding behind each little planet or moon. It's scary out there!

With a nerf of PWA availability at Colonia, not much chance of over-mining then :D
lol
