<sigh> Should I ditch my PS4 for PC?

I've been playing Elite for about a year on PS4. I've accumulated ranks, permits, Engineering, an Anaconda, Corvette, (other ships are available), paint jobs, and Exploration Codex data.

Yet somehow I'm made to hate my console. There are more third party tools for the pc (http://edcodex.info/?m=tools) and I would be able to use a VR headset, HOTAS, voice control etc.

Is the grass really greener on the other side?

Would FDev help me migrate to PC?

PS. I don't yet have a gaming PC, just a laptop and monitor for work. So that would need to be a factored in.

I think they can do that, if you ask nicely.

And indeed, PC platform offers plenty of advantges if you have suitabke Hardware.
Make sure though your Laptop in potent enough, in the long run a dedicated Gaming rig is highly recommended.
Far more cost-effective to maintain and upgrade, plus offers far more performance.

Before you give up, there's a thrustmaster hotas that works for ps4 you might want to try. Im not too happy with quality of the throttle but it gets the job done and has the same effect.

The pc has the tools which are nice for cutting and pasting search results.. this alone might make the difference for you..

But id probably be inclined to say its surprisingly flat transition.. the graphics are pretty much identical on both platforms save any frame rate issues.

It really depends on how important ED is to you as a game. I've been tempted in this regard myself, but I play lots of games besides ED, all of which I enjoy on my humble PS4. So instead of buying new hardware to play the same old game, I just bought some new games for a fraction of the cost.

And then there's the promise of PS5 and XBox Scorpio...

Bearing in mind the next expansion is due in 2020 and that's the time frame for the PS5 and whatever the new Xbox is called (I don't understand the naming rules) I would guess that the PS5 is going to provide a big step forward, and it should support decent VR.

As someone who has both, as good as it looks in VR on PC there are times when being to play in front of a big 4K TV are very very much preferable.

In terms of customisability and personalisation, the PC will always be better than the consoles - the closed ecosystem is one of their biggest attractions, but also one of their biggest weaknesses. If you really want to use 3rd party tools and plugins, the PC is where you're going.

You will only get your credits transferred, though for me that wouldn't be a problem. I did a hard reset on my account a couple of years ago, and you'll be amazed how quickly you get back to where you are again. A lot of the effort of getting to where you are is learning the game and all the intricacies. Second time around you know how to make money quickly, you know what ships you want and what the best way of getting them is, and you know how to run several activities together in order to also unlock the engineers while you work on other goals.

The only thing that might put me off would be not being able to transfer my cosmetic items, but I don't know how many of those you have - for me, it's an embarrassing amount of money to have spent dressing up my digital space ships!

Why would you want to transfer from console to pc ? The pc brigade is full of hackers that FDev can't do anything about. That's why FDev do the majority of their streams on console so they get to avoid the hackers.

That is a very good point. At least I know what I'm doing now..

A half decent PC (not VR capable) will set you back just a fraction more than a PS5(or Xbox whatever) will on its initial release price.

Combined with generally cheaper games, and more goodies, it does make for a great platform.
You can also stagger upgrades, keeping the costs generally low, after the initial build.
I generally just upgrade my GPU until my CPU can't cope anymore, then I'll upgrade my CPU, motherboard and RAM together, until my GPU begins to struggle, then repeat. Or you can sell and upgrade while your components aren't too old, to recoup some of the costs.
Other components are replaced when they fail, which isn't often. I've only had 1 HDD fail in my entire life, and about 5-6 fans. Lol
PSU gets replaced every 5-6 years, for safety.

I'm on PS4 and from what I can see, PC has better graphics with no elephant butt leather, a more stable platform, doesn't melt when 6/8 system authority ships come after you (admittedly, this is optional), more actual people to see and doesn't require £50 a year if you want to play open.

The only reason I'm not using a PC is I can't put that in a quiet corner of the house to not disturb anyone else on a late night session as I can with the PS4.

The biggest reason I'm in the market for a pc is first and foremost. My house was broken into while we were gone, they took any thing and everything electronic. Thus I've got to buy a new platform as well as a new 32 in curved monitor, plus the game and unless Fdev waves their rule for allowing a one time transfer from device to device. Which I've already did when switching from ps4 to xbox. And consider this time to be an hardship that was beyond my control. I'll have to start as a noob.

The second reason is regardless of how fast or slow one down an or up load speed is. The "PING" rate on pc is SOOOOOOOOO much better than a console. I've gotta go with it.
The third, is there are some cool third party add on's that i believe really hence the game.

I would say go with the PC any day of the week. You can do so much more with a PC and if you can cope with the wires your going to be ok. I think consoles are good but PC has upgrade abilities and replacement parts are cheap as chips nowadays.

I went the other way - PC to PS4. I transferred credits I'm sure but had to start over in a sidewinder. My transition straddled engineers though which is obviously a material difference. I wouldn't start afresh and have to unlock them again - that's probably the bit you should check.
