Knowing the forum crymunity like I do now, I wouldn't be surprised if PvP was 'rare and meaningful' and we got one kill a month that determined something lore based, that the usual suspects would be here overanalysing that kill, how it means the victor was a real life kitten murderer, and that one kill i5-wHy_Th3y,fLy.1n:m0biU5

Lol. Phisto doesn't know me. It seems a little reactionary to say you dislike me personally on the basis of a discussion on a game forum. I simply asked you to explain your own words. Your reaction to the request is rather telling.

As I've said, it's not based on that request but the totality of your posts in this thread. You believe Open Play is dying because of gankers, yes? I find your reasoning suspect and your experience narrow. As far as personal animosity goes, you strike me as the kind of person that's more interested in winning an argument over discussion.

All trick and no trade, as a friend of mine likes to say.

Anyway, to get back on topic as our little back and forth has gone on long enough I hope folks keep encouraging people to play in Open with the proper mindset but if they desire a different experience to take advantage of PG or Solo.

For some unspecified reason, playing in a PG is not an option for him. He insists on playing in open.
If he specified the reason, my apologies in advance for missing it.

No. I don't think that. I said there's an increasing number of people stopping playing open in favour of solo because of ganking, a move I would encourage in order to eventually force Frontier to address the issue. You have fundamentally misunderstood my opinion, clearly.

I'm not sure "all trick and no trade" is an expression btw.

I have. I play Mobius but it's dead. People tend to move from open to solo. Not to PG. I'd prefer everyone was in mobius, but the simple reality is it isn't happening. I'm in Sol right now in Mobius and there is not a living soul here. All my friends are in solo.

Regarding why open mode traders and the ilk 'don't offer advice' on how to deal with being attacked, I would just take a moment to highlight that we do.

However, years of being told how telling someone to fit a DAMN shield to their trader is us 'forcing people to play our way, or that every sensible suggestion we give is strawmanned away (usually by someone who's never set foot in open), we've grown tired of it. Particularly when proactive threads are shunted off to die in subforums while histrionic 'SDC diddled my wife in front of me because I clicked open once' type posts. The fact at one point anyone who shared the T-7 survivors guide vid would at the least incur infractions shows this desire to shut down that viewpoint.

It's really annoying, because open pve-ists have a big breadth of experience to draw on and share, but it gets drowned out in the griefer fear anti-open rhetoric. :/

end of drunken train rant

Morbad used words correctly. Just because you can find alternate meanings that would make little sense doesn't mean he is wrong. It just means you don't know how to use a dictionary. Which isn't something I would flaunt too much.

Hey the joke is it's the same pages he used to assert his opinion. Duh... So technically we're both right, isnt it wonderful?

You can call it organic and freeform and emergent and casual, or whatever, I dont mind. But as long as it needs a bandwith meter, twitch for streamsniping and having a tailored counterbuild, minimum 200 hours of grind to unlock stuff and premium ammo, and after all that you're still not sure the other guy dont use the trainer or would clog, let me just go with calling it poopoo.

Let me explain. If someone makes a sentence, using definitions that match the words used, he is correct. You can make other sentences if you want. But you can't claim he is wrong by pointing at alternative definitions. You can only claim he is wrong by acknowledging any correct definitions and finding flaws in his reasoning or facts, or show the definitions he used do not exist.

Hope this helps! :)

And once again, I never said he was wrong. Just that my poopoo contained more carbons. But thanks for the... I dont know... Forum advice? Must I really take you're a linguist expert when you put words in my mouth I didnt tell?

Didn't you say recently you participate on this forum partially to practice written English? Dude, I'm American and even I know not to lecture native speakers on their own tongue.

I know this feel too well, brother. For what it's worth, I think it's gotten better around here. Not where we need to be, but progress indeed.

It's not just about language, it's also about logic, or the lack thereof. Having a proper matchmaker for pvp in the main game with the same features you already have with telepresence... I guess it's mineral. Could crystalize players around the hardcore pvp fans out there, instead of hunting traders for salt. Whatever.

I don't think Elite is the kind of game that would benefit from proper matchmaking. Folks crave that organic PvP Morbad was talking about. I know that's what gets me going more than anything.

Duels and organized tournaments can always happen of course, but if something like BGS, Powerplay, or Squadrons more easily provided worthwhile reasons to fight I suspect you'd see a lot of people, not just PvPers, jump on in.

Look at the recent war AEDC and GARD fought over the Helios system. That's the stuff, right there.

Can verify.

Most PvPers I know (or ex-PvPists) were on-board for ED for this exact chain of thought (ie best the Fed's for the glory of the empire in the open field in battle for control of a system, rather than turretboating in ad museum against dullard NPCs, and the victor is the one who leaves their PC on the longest).

I always used to play in mobius/solo as I really didn't want to be 'bothered' with socialising. It was fine and I have no complaints regarding either mode. with a couple of CG's I've flown a trade ship in open until noticed, interdicted and blown up - then returned to PG/solo and gone on playing - having given a PvP'er some 'content' and had a little fun myself.

Recently a suggestion was put forward from a known 'ganker' as an alternative CG - boost the engineers in Colonia - not a massive take-up on that offer, sadly, but I offered to come along and do my bit to help. Now I'm not suggesting those 'murderhobos' out there have gone soft, far from it, but there is a welcoming community there for those who wish to be part of it.

There are players who will see your hollow square and rush to 'greet' you (in a distinctly unfriendly way), there is arranged 'jousting' too, which even one such as I can join in and enjoy... (I'm at the top level of 'pensioner' play here - I was 30 when the original elite was released :) )

Strange though it may sound, I play in open now (apart from a recent trip, in a Cylon Taxi donated Sidey to Jameson) rather than PG/solo because of that community - and a serious reassessment of what I 'wanted' from this game. I BH NPC's in a Courier in Colonia, a seriously fun ship, it doesn't do that much damage but does bring a smile...

Those 'murderhobos' have shared their space, and plans for the future, and took the time to settle me in - thanks folks (y)

How to avoid gankers? Don't ask me... (I'm just leaning how to fly my first FDL)

BGS, powerplay and squadrons were never meant for pvp IMO... You have too many factions, and too many powers, to have meaningful pvp chokepoints around those features. I guess Colonia gameplay makes sense in that context.

I saw you in that FDL at one of the Engineer bases. Gotta say... had a hell of a smirk on my face.

Lovely post. Happy to have you out here, buddy.

I'd agree on BGS. It was hand on heart co-opted by all the E-napoleons, seen as that was all we had at the time in terms of metric based dominance. Worse, FDev fuelled that by grading their interactiobs with PF based on how good they were at dominating the BGS.

But I think you're wrong with PP. It seems to be designed (at its heart) specifically for that kind of gameplay.
