FDEV - Rumours in Codex - will we ever see them?

Note to self.

Bump this thread in a month.

A lot of heavyweights and long time voices here asking:
“How about some content?”

Doesn’t have to be earth shaking. Just, you know. Another initiative. A rumour of two. Something.

Noone really knows, but this is basically how I imagine it would work :

  • you start seeing a Story in GALnet, i.e. a weird occurrence such as a.... DBX is stolen from a Station Hangar
  • the Story continues and initially ends like "investigators unable to locate the Vessel and for now close the case"
  • 3 weeks later another GALnet article pops up "weak distress Signal from {Galactic Sector} picked up by Deep Space surveillance Network"
  • a rumor appears in Codex for the Galactic Sector "stolen DBX rumored to be lost in the {Galactic Sector}" with a summary of the story background
  • Players can now search the Sector for leads/breadcrumbs to solve the mystery (as it's now confirmed to be in-game content Players can interact with vs. read-only GALnet fluff)
In a nutshell :
GALnet intro of a Story/Mystery -> GALnet narration for a while (Details/possible hints etc.) -> Codex Rumor is eventually seeded and it's now up to the Players to investigate and solve it
Seems unlikely, as that section of the codex is not about recording individual occurrences, but classes of things. More likely teh galnet would say 'new Gaurdian X rumoured to be around', and the rumour would be in the codex in a sector and maybe with system parameters to narrow the search. IMHO. We will see when the first is added 🤷‍♀️

What happened to Rumours in Codex? We've not seen a single one of those since Codex was released and IIRC they were supposed to lead us to interesting findings... Are we ever going to see them or is this going to be another placeholder forever?
Half-baked... Frontier needs to replace their oven.

If somebody finds something new then it will appear as 'Reported', not 'Rumored'
Yup - totally agree
which means we can assume that there ISN'T anything else there.
Not sure what you mean by that - if you mean there is nothing else currently to find I have to disagree - just looking at gaps in the found Anomaly names it seems unlikely that all have been found (why would there be E02 and E04 anomalies but no E01 E03, for instance). Lots of other examples like that.

So why aren't anomalies E01 and E03 rumored?

If you want a logical explanation of why they could be missing, look at stars and the missing C, D and H classes.

You seem to be under the misapprehension that the stellar anomalies are based on RL, like the star classes. Actually I believe they are made up by fdev for game purposes. And most normal humans count up from 1* rather than choosing to skip numbers randomly .. or that's what Mr Ockham would probably tell you if he were around ;)

* yes, excepting programmers, where zero is the right answer :)

Then why isn't it already rumored?

Because I believe the idea is that we are meant to find something that points us in a direction, like a satelite or some alien artifact or something else like that. Then what its pointing at becomes rumoured until someone visits what it's pointing at which it then becomes reported, and when you visit it becomes confirmed.

Well if they're made up for game purposes, then they can be made up with gaps in the numbering and no logical reason behind it.
I've spent far too long on the Formidine Rift and Raxxla mysteries to believe that FDev put anywhere near as much thought into these things as players do, and that having items numbered 2 and 4 automatically infers that items 1 and 3 exist.

That's optimistic.

Also, I'd frankly be annoyed if I discovered a satellite or alien artifact with clues to some new thing in the galaxy and it IMMEDIATELY appeared in the Codex for everyone to see. If I find a clue, I damn well want to follow it myself, not have some other person get the discovery because they happen to be closer.

Yeah I understand, but as they said, exploration is now going to be a bit more social. Not too sure when it appears in the codex though, but I would prefer it if it only appeared once you handed in the discovery which would give you the option to either find it yourself or to have other people help you find it.

The results of exploration can be social, sure, but not necessarily the actual process.
I honestly don't think FDev have thought this through - which is becoming increasingly common.

Hopefully the 'new era' will actually contain a coherent, organized vision for what they're trying to do - although I'm pretty sure I'm going to hate it ;).

From what I understood, Rumours would be manually inserted by FDEV into Codex. I may have misinterpreted their words though.

Ditto!

Well. Here's the thing. The BIG question..... is there more to find? If SO, then if we take too long finding it then the rumour-mill is a good way to start directing people in that general area. If we've already discovered one of each of the things out there, then the rumour-mill isn't needed as there's nothing to point at.

SO - either we as a community are AWESOME at discovering stuff when out exploring in which case we rather rendered the rumour system redundant
OR
We're waiting on NEW stuff to be announced via rumour that will take us off in new directions, and Frontier have a master plan as to their release!

Given how fast things like the thargoid machine, the guardian beacons and similar items were discovered and decoded, it's entirely possible that we're just awesome at finding things.
