Early Alien Design: Vogue Colourful

This is an early alien design by Mark Montague for Elite Dangerous. It's called Vogue Colourful. Is this a Thargoid? It's more unique (especially the head) than the leaked 3D model imo. The head of Vogue Blue is cool too.

He made more alien designs:

Perhaps we will find out what has happened to all the occupied space pods the Thargoids have stolen
They prolly all went to that Harry Potter looking tinkerer in Colonia who needs these pods... for something. Weird guy, doesn't seem very gosher. I wouldn't allow him to touch my ship with a ten foot pole. Whats his name again...?

If this is supposed to be alien life form, it's too humanoid for my tastes.
Those look like mutated humans from some horror vision of Hell, not extraterrestrials.

Worth noting the comments in the image:

Nice. Were all the Vogue characters meant for Elite Dangerous, or just this one?

You're right. There were others but I never got around to developing them any further.

Vogue looks very proto-xenomorph from Prometheus.
Vogue Blue looks like it could've been in Bloodborne.
Vogue Colourful could be either a prototype Thargoid or a Guardian concept, being so humanoid - even moreso Vogue Walker.

I like it on the whole. I expect a lot of intelligent alien life will likely have two arms, two legs, fingers to manipulate. I would expect them to be a requisite for technology.

Etienne Dorn. He puts me in mind of Major Toht from Raiders of the Lost Ark. And he's probably every bit as evil.

It must be difficult to go all out and come up with something that looks really good and alien to boot.
Nature may tend to just find its way toward what works, no matter which part of the universe life inhabits, and what works is this - thumb - index finger - lower extent, middle finger - and eyes to focus on that fine control the claw provides.

Look at those 3 and rub them together all at once. Then you'll see what I see. Understanding it is a different matter.

Nice find!

Some interesting little overlaps with the potential leaked one:

  • Legs which split lower down
  • 2 'hands' capable of manipulating objects
  • (Alien green ;))

I do prefer the head design in his one, but the 'hands' are a bit meh, and the general more upright humanoid form kinda clashes with the multi-leg look. The 'leaked' one is a bit more cohesive overall.

The Thargoid story that develops could be gruesome, if these images are pertinent to that.

Thargoids capture humans in escape pods, re-engineer their bodies into mutant Tharg-beings. Meanwhile, INRA, the successor to AEGIS, presumably continues to "experiment" on captured Thargoids, as was previously reported in AEGIS logs.

Does FD realise they have a customer base of snowflakes?
