Would you buy an ED single player spin-off like Squadron 42?

I'm talking about a single player adventure that do not affect the BGS with:
  • interactive and animated NPC's
  • acted dialogues
  • cinematics
  • handcrafted and interactive missions
and other contents that lead you through a new adventure in the same Elite Dangerous galaxy with the same assets plus something specific for the story.
A story/adventure that would guarantee 50+ hours of gameplay.

The adventure could be started with your current character (so no need to restart a new one) and at the end of it you would also be able to keep the progression (credits, ships, rankings, modules, materials and so on) in the current game so that the complete adventure would be consistent with the general experience.

What's your opinion about that?

I assume you don't mean Squadron 42: pre-order in 2012, with advertised release years of 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and now (probably) 2021?

Now, would I buy an ED single player spin-off like CoD: Infinite Warfare, Freespace 1 or 2, Rebel Galaxy (Outlaw), or X-Wing Alliance? Sure, but I'd much prefer it to be added to main game as Mission Packs :)

I would prefere mission packs in the Frontier Store and I suggested this few time ago but most players rejected to spend money on that, so now I'm trying something different :censored:

I have a Lifetime Expansion Pass, so Mission Packs would be free for me ;)

And tbh, I don't see why people would be against paid-for Mission/Story Packs - Stellaris and other Paradox Games do exactly the same (each pack costs between £10 and £20 depending on content-size) and are very popular with game-fans.

Especially seeing as handcrafted/interactive Missions/Stories were something that were never promised to be part of the basegame scope. Paying for them is appropriate.

Some random points on this:
  • I would rather have it actually delivered within my lifetime, not on the Squadron 42 schedule.
  • I would rather have it stand alone from the main game. Merely to make it interesting. If it would be based on our current commander, FD would have to balance a story for people who might have a beginner sidewinder or a fully engineered vette. So either it's deadly for the first group, or no challenge at all for the second. A story without any challenge is not interesting, though.
  • FD up to now has shown that they know the technical side of things. But they also have shown to have very little expertise in writing stories. They'd absolutely hire some better writers for a project like this.

That all being said, i'd very much like to play a game meeting these criteria and would buy it right away.

Honestly, I am not too interested in that. I'm not saying it would be bad, but it is not for me.

I'd rather see some way to connect your generated missions and actions together, to create a barebone feel of small scenarios and stories playing out. Sort of an expansion to the followup-mission system (which is too basic to be truly enjoyable at the moment). And perhaps also generated persistent NPCs, it would be fun to kill "the pirate" instead of "a pirate" now and then... stuff like that.

Yes I would. I would expect to get it for free of course given i am an LTP owner, but had i not had the LTP then i would be all over it and it is right up in my wheelhouse of what i like to play.

Nope. What I like about the Elite franchise is the universe it takes place in, and a sandbox/open world game is the perfect medium to explore it.
On the other hand as I know what Christ Roberts is good at, I'm interested in SQ42 more than Star Citizen.

Yes. Though I'd prefer it to be more like Skyrim rather than Uncharted or Rise of the Tomb Raider (though I also enjoyed those 'on rails' titles). Oh, and make the Bubble much smaller - it's way too big IMO. Instead of a big, bland Bubble, I'd rather have a detailed, hand-crafted Bubble where each system is unique in character and missions like the cities and towns of Skyrim.

I'm still of the opinion that ED would have been a much better game if they had focused on making it single-player instead of a pseudo-MMO. At the very least it should have started as a single-player and then Frontier could have spun off a separate multiplayer mode later, similar to RDR2 Online, once they nailed the single-player version.

I would play it, regardless of whether it was incorporated into the game as a DLC of some sort, or a stand alone title. I could care less if I even had to start fresh in whatever ship the story needs me to be in.

Short answer: yes.

Not my idea, but I'm thinking of a game set from 3301 to present, guiding players through the history of Elite Dangerous, sending them off on missions of discovery for the Guardians, Thargoids, generation ships, Inra. Or hauling goods to celebrate the new Emperor. Or simply as an extended tutorial.

I'd only buy it as a feature/part of a bigger update not as stand alone DLC. Mainly because I expect story and narrative to be a part of the core game not an extra.

They done that with Jurassic park Evolution.

If it was considered a viable product then it would happen. There are lots of antisocial gamers so yeah should be a viable market.

Also why not just email write a letter to DOBE with your 'helpful' suggestion.
Or why not just wait for Squadron 42 when/ if its released.

I would like a tardis to travel back to 1984.
