What is the point of the 3 crew members....

What is the point of the 3 crew members when we can only have 1 on board at any time?
So I have a very rich Elite crew member and put her into retirement whilst I trained up another to deadly.
I am currently training up my 3rd and final crew member. But what's the point of having 3 crew members, where only 1 is active at any one time, yet all 3 are getting a percentage cut of all my transaction profits and combat experience?

Were they originally intended to be a full crew for bigger ships like the annaconda?

There is no point in having three. Get rid of at least one.
