Fleet carrier or squadron carrier?

So, if all of the ships you own in game are collectively called your fleet, then does that mean fleet carriers are designed for individual commanders to ferry around their fleet and not necessarily for squads?

Originally when fleet carriers were discussed ages ago, it seemed like the target market was the small amount of players that run a wing, and the rest of the members of the wing would just be along for the ride. That scope would be awfully small if that is the case and the amount of work that would go into creating this feature seems not to make sense. Why undertake such a large change for the small amount of players that would actually get to use the feature? For the rest of the wing, it wouldn’t be much more than a ferry to another area at the whim of a squad commander.

My hope is that these fleet carriers are intended to be used by individual pilots that want to be able to transport their fleet around the galaxy.

I'm quite confident they aren't intended to be used by individual pilots although it may be possible. In a practical sense, what would be the cost/resources required to move a capital ship and fleet across the galaxy, compared to a single ship? We're really talking about a Gnosis, each.

Has to be expensive to do, I imagine.

That seems like a missed opportunity then. I like the way No Man’s Sky implemented carriers. They are designed for you to move a fleet. If Elite fleet carriers are just for squadron commanders, I guess the overwhelming majority of players will never get to experience their gameplay. We already have ferries in the game, so nothing too new for the rest of us.

remember one of the "rules" of the fleet carriers that every jump requires a fairly significant grind to fuel the carrier for the jump. I don't think the intention is to allow mobility but to anchor you to specific systems where you wamt a base of operations for a while. you get 1 jump per week at the most.

Im sure some grind monkey will eventually take a carrier from the bubble to Colonia but it won't be a common thing.

I'm not hyped at all for these carriers because I know they are clearly a multiplayer content and I'm a solo player... Instead I'm still waiting news for the Ice Planets...

It's trivial to have a one pilot squadron. 10 mil credits IIRC. So wouldn't the worst case for a solo player just creates a squadron for him/herself?

It's all pretty useless speculation anyway for now.

I'm taking bets that the 'fuel grind' they mentioned is simply not going to be a thing for a single normal human being.

I wonder if you can only see carrier/location if you are a member of a particular squadron.
I'm really interested in how it's gonna work.

I suspect if you are a single player squadron you can have one.
You just might not want one.

What will they do for Squadrons that they cannot do for a single player?
If it takes a squadron get materials to get one to jump, how long will it take for one person. Also I suspect there will be no shipyard so you can only have one ship docked. If that's the case a single player could be grinding for days or weeks to get the ship to jump with your single ship on board. It will take a fraction of the time to just fly there yourself.

That I suspect is the reason why they will be for squadrons only as the probably may not make any sense for solo players.

But I could be wrong. I wouldn't be against a small fleet carrier for a few of your ships, that need NPCs to use, that need paying etc. Maybe in a later update that will come.

I'm guessing here, wildly, mind you, that beyond the initial investment of making a carrier there will be some sort of upkeep cost that's prohibitively expensive for single player use, though perhaps not impossible. Maybe not upkeep over time, but upkeep maintenance per use or the like.

I'm of two minds about it. I'm in a fairly active exploration related squadron (we have two silvers and one gold at the moment), but generally I'm much more of a lone-wolf type of pilot. Seeing group multi-player meta and capability content is something I hope Frontier treads lightly with. Would rather not see this turn into more of a social-engineering type game like Eve or whatnot.

Disclaimer: I don't play Eve, though I've heard you can sort of get away playing it as a lone-wolf, but you're generally at a significant disadvantage.

The epic space battles when everyone can use one of these and NPC or player pilots for the docked crafts, amazing.

Now all we need is atmospheric planetfall.

Let's hope in a not so long future. i would love to see NPC crew associated to a fleet carrier. Or some NPC wingmen.
