New currency for cosmetics, earnable in-game

Arx Currency FAQ:

I feel like a hypocrite having wanted something like this but all it's doing is making me nervous.

I'm baffeld at the the amount of people applauding the introduction of a bull:poop: microtransaction currency into the game.

Ideally I would want all of the content in a game I paid for in the game, but yes this is reality and at least a cash shop is about as honest and upfront way of doing monetization as possible. But now? The real cost is going to be obfuscated behind whatever the Arx exchange rate is and I guarantee that everything will get more expensive.

I really hope that we will still be able pay cash for cosmetics rather than just Arx. But really if FD are just going to start bringing in even more trappings of a free to play game why not just make it free to play?

Pretty disappointed.

Frontier Points have been the MTX cocmetic currency on Elite console since 2015.

From September, all CMDRs can earn the new cosmetic currency in-game.

Amazing that this is seen as a negative - it's a fantastic change: earning cosmetics in-game 😁

Changing paint jobs out in the black seems a bit too "casual," "gamey," etc. Not a huge deal; just not what I'd prefer.

And of course, I agree with others that this should certainly not introduce P2W elements.

Other than these two points, it seems like a nice added functionality for people to get cosmetics in the game.

Good news: you can choose to only change your paintjobs when docked, if you prefer 😀
So what? That doesn't make it not overly gamey from my point of view. At least it's just cosmetic and not something like instant ship transfers, telepresence, etc.

It's nice learning other people's ships by sight when out on expeditions and the like.

There was a thread and third-party site dedicated to hosting fleet roster pics for Distant Worlds 2, for example. This change would kind of undermine that sort of thing to an extent. https://www.distantworlds2.space/fleet-showcase

Oh well. Not a huge deal; just not what I'd prefer.

10Cent want their return.

Been a long time since they got it. At the price they bought in, after a few months the share price basically doubled so they could have cashed in double the amount invested if they so wanted at the time. After a year the stock had actually tripled. I presume they have not sold yet but hey.

Okay lets see how fantastic everyone thinks it is once we have a reasonable Arx/per hour average. Multiply that by your combind hours spent in the game and see how little that will buy you...

It will be an amount that doesn't seem totally miserly but small enough to make you say "screw it I'll just spend some money and then I can get what I want".

I get it, this is a business, but you're deluding yourselves if you don't think this isn't entirely for the benefit of FD and their shareholders. I by no means think FD is as 💩-y a company as the likes of EA but this just smacks of sharp business practices that we've come to loath from games developers. Like I said, disappointing, but just my opinion.
