well they're looking for new barnacles.
maybe that's the real catalyst for the tier system? ie they don't care about your trip to colonia or your DW data?

has anyone been looking? ...would have been nice for some tips from input... one guy said nothing at California ... I checked the Taurus dark region (despite thargoid presence in most to almost all systems) ... which region would the thargoid likely expand into? ..and of course one should expect thargoid presence itself ..?

To this date, all Exploration CGs were fake. 1 System sold into a CG = 1 Report. No matter what's in it or where it came from.
So 1 System with a single Brown Dwarf = 1 Report. 1 System with 50 Objects and 5 Target items the CG was supposedly looking for? 1 Report.

Tier 1 should have been higher. The CG feels like as a failure, then it should be a failure.

FD needs to improve these CG mechanics. I thought the Interstellar Initiatives were going to bring us that, but instead they brought us the same old mistakes.

They messed up the tiers - it happens. It feels like a failure not because people have't contributed, but because the tiers are unrealistic. I'm not sure that having an II fail on the first stage would give a lot more gameplay.

Nope - they said they were reusing existing CGs as part of the II. The 'new' stuff is the change in Barnacle output and MA pricing, and a galnet.

Yes it is all a bit underwhelming, but this is only stage 1, let's see where it goes - plenty of time to be annoyed when it's done ;)

They also keep mentioning new Scenarios though, so hopefully we'll see some of those during this II.

.......uhm, . but there ARE new crops of barnacles to be found.......... right.......?
.....so at least I'm not looking for a needle in a haystack that isn't even there..?

I gotta say. If they are deliberately trying to put people off doing Interstellar Initiatives then the totally unrealistic CG tiers are a fine way to go about it. What the hell is even up with tier 5-6?

Only Aegis is able to convert the electromagnetic waves on the data returned in to triangulation of were in the galaxy new locations "could" be if just any one was able to locate new locations there would be no need for Aegis to issue the request and every mega corp would be finding new locations every week...
joe public ship pilot is not told.. the new locations Won't show on a Domestic FSS or DSS because they have not be programmed to ID new locations only Aegis have the tech to triangulate and would con firm it with mega ships...
You won't find any thing new Via your Ships systems as they are not coded to display it...

CGs complete after tier 1 nothing else matters after that ... its just bonus money after tier 1...

Succeeding at those tiers is part of what makes GCs worth doing. I'm a bit jaded now but I still remember willing the tiers to rise as the deadline approached, enjoying the final push to raise the total. Since there are no levels of success the only thing worth getting is the money. I wonder how many new players at CGs are just looking at this and thinking - "Well, this was a waste of my time".

Yes, I used to do CGs for the actual money, but these days they're eclipsed by better-paying options. I'm still joining in, but not every play session.

It kinda feels what you're trying to say is, forget gameplay, just jump around and use your imagination!

Wouldnt it be great, if the CG accounted for actual system and planetary scans, only from certain regions of space, and if we actually found a new barnacle site, we would get a nice juicy bonus for it?

It looks like FD wanted to make tier 1 easy, but some randomness set in after that.

Option 1: FDev wildly overestimated the amount of already gathered (but not handed in) exploration data, and the enthusiasm of players to jump-honk for more.

Option 2: FDev didn't give it any real thought and just through some random numbers together.

Neither fills me with much confidence.

Yup - but do you want to wait another year or 2 until they have time to code that all up? These II are time-fillers until 2020. (Though that doesn't excuse the CG limits, which as Graphite says look very much like copy & paste and could easily have been more realistic).
