Make the Fleet Carriers Modular .... there is still time to implement this

This suggestion has arisen from a comment I posted in "Please Consider Fleet Carriers for Solo Players" (in Dangerous Discussion).

If FD were imaginative (which I am sure they are !), the Fleet Carriers could be modular ..... have a basic small number of pads and expand up to a maximum level as required. (The cost would scale accordingly)

That way, small squadrons or even individuals might afford them.

So far, it has received 18 25 Likes*, which is a record for me ! So there is support for this kind of Fleet Carrier suggestion.
*EDIT - now it's up to 36 !

Given that the capital ships seen so far are modular (bridge, engines, connecting rod with modules attached) that does sound plausible.
Each three modules would need a longer connection and stronger engines (could be just part of the module's costs).

Great suggestion.

It'd also allow is to make our own individual carrier, unique(ish) to our squadron.

Basically outfitting for a very very very large ship. Only the changes are also visually represented.

Kinda like, homeworld? Did that have modular design? Or something that looked similar. I forget.

Homeworld: Cataclysm had a modular mother ship, which started as a mining ship frame and gradually you could add large sections below the spine, a la Star Control II, to kit it out for combat ops. Homeworld 2 had a mothership with buildable modules on the outside of the mothership, also adding capabilities, but they were smaller and didn’t change the look as much.

Aha yes! Cataclysm! I forgot about that one.

I thought they were already confirmed as modular last year - in that you could choose upgrades, and they would be visible to people flying nearby (as non members won't be able to land). But I guess what you're really asking is ... can the basic ship be small enough for individuals to afford.

I can't see why it wouldn't be - there are legit small squadrons of just a few friends, and I doubt fdev would want to stop them buying if they want. Probably better to save the campaign for when we see what they plan.

Upgrades yes, I got that impression, but nothing clear about what that might be, and nothing clear if those upgrades would be visual - they might be internal upgrades, such as ship refuelling, basic repair, etc.

Modularity would, of course, be very visual.

Available for individuals? I have seen screenshots with trillions of credits (1000000000000). It just depends on how many credits you can get as an individual.

The other alternative would be to instead have a range of different sized carriers, sized to fit anywhere between single pilots up to maxed out squadrons. The lightest carriers might only be able to dock a large ship and a few medium/small ships, while the largest would have literally hundreds of docking ports to support even the largest squadrons but would have the price tag to match.
