Proposal: A Way to Pirate Slaves and Free Them

This comes up from time to time. There's some talk, but no one does anything.

If anyone was serious about freeing slaves (and anyone who is serious about freeing slaves can see that 'Imperial' Slaves are as much slaves as Slaves slaves) they would fit a manifest scanner to a fast combat ship and hang around slave market systems, scanning players in Open and attacking anyone carrying Slaves. Or else get organized and form an Anti-Slavery Squadron that does the same thing in a group. But that doesn't happen. So.

I think the point is the game mechanics are somewhat lacking to support that role.
If you blow up the ships carrying the slaves it doesn't help them
If you pirate them, you are left with Stolen cargo the S&R agent wont help with
If you buy them from the slave markets to bring back to free somewhere the S&R agent wont help with that either
And the latest mission system has lost the flavour text for emancipation missions which used to exist.

Still feel free to say that if you aren't blowing up slaves in the slavers' ships then you aren't serious about being anti slavery.

Yes, I know the point is that the game lacks an anti-slavery mechanic. My point is that the game lacks an anti-slavery mechanic because no one takes anti-slavery seriously enough to actually do anything about it with the mechanics that are available: i.e. rigorously attacking all slave-carrying ships, and acquiring [Imperial] Slaves and discarding them in starports. If enough players regularly attacked slavers, and discarded Slaves in starports, perhaps Frontier would consider introducing a mechanic to cater for them.

Being anti-slavery has nothing to do with helping slaves, at least not in the first instance. It's about demonstrating that slavery in any form is totally unacceptable. In the first instance slaves are perfectly content to remain in bondage, since it is the safest course for them, or else they would liberate themselves. Thereby they continue to support their masters and perpetuate slavery, and nothing ever changes. The only way things ever change, is when the slaves learn that their subhuman bondage is totally unacceptable to human beings. And the only way they will learn that, is when they see that they will be destroyed along with their captors if they continue to accept their bondage. There simply is no other way.

Besides which, any Slaves surviving anti-slavery attacks on slave ships as loose or jettisoned cargo can be scooped, and taken to a starport and simply discarded. Or Slaves can be bought and simply discarded. No one's ever bothered to find out what happens to the markets when there's a run of organized anti-slaving players, all buying and discarding all available Slaves everywhere from under the noses of the slave traders.

So you see, the anti-slavery mechanics are there in placeholder form. But that's how they stay because no one uses them. And no one uses them partly because of arguments like yours i.e. if you rescue slaves you might get a criminal record for stealing slaves, and you don't get paid by S&R for the slaves you rescue, which is just another way of saying: 'I can't rescue slaves because then I can't sell them as Slaves and slave trading systems might put a bounty on my head for being anti-slavery'. Well there are mechanics for that too. Buy the Slaves from a slave dealer, then you don't get a criminal record for stealing them. Sell them to another slave dealer and you get paid for them.

Feel free to argue that Imperial slaves aren't really slaves, or that blowing up slaves isn't helping to stop slavery, but don't pretend that you're anti-slavery and it's the game's fault that you can't do anything about it.

It would be cool if they implemented an Underground Railroad-esque anti-slavery network.

They could be a Search and Rescue-type contact at many starports (for releasing slaves you found) and have a presence as an NPC faction in a few systems (for giving slave-rescue passenger missions, piracy missions, anti-slaver assassination missions, etc.).

Then, also let unscrupulous players sell passengers into slavery at certain stations, for big profits, but doing so has a chance of the Underground Railroad getting wind of it and sending assassins after you.

On the other hand, do-gooders who release slaves, also run the risk of being attacked in certain anarchies and pro-slavery systems for interfering in the trade.

By that logic due to the lack of players constantly trying to land of planets with atmospheres and don't have groups set up to with the goal of landing on them so we shouldn't be asking for landing on atmospheric planets.

People have fought against illegal slave trading but any victory is turns to salt and Ash when you cant do anything to liberate the captives but instead get a fine for carrying stolen cargo !

Or get fined for illegal cargo

The only success is buying Imperial slaves from Independent Dictatorships Anarchies and Patronages and ferrying them back to Imperial space where they are at least not illegal but still you have to sell them to the commodities market or abandon the cargo when docked as despite Imperial Slave Authority regulations which state any imperial Slave sold outside the empire is freed of their contract due to their mistreatment

I'd be happy to hand them over to S&R and PAY so they have a fund to start over with

And worse you can attack Cmdrs carrying the Power Play hostages and slaves and if you are not pledge there is not way to liberate them or return them home or anything besides abandon them at a star port.

So don't tell me,
Oh you're not really trying

I have tried all the ways since selling Imperial slaves to independents was the credit rush favour of the month and given how long it took for the S&R to be added after escape pods and political prisoners and the like were added answer me this
How many more YEARS do I need to demonstrate by playing the game and seeking ways to free slaves and hostages and potlical prisoners to meet your standard to be able to make a suggestion in the SUGGESTIONS forum.

You don't have to meet my standards to make a suggestion. But you didn't make a suggestion; you just pooh-poohed my suggestion that anti-slavery should be active and organized, so I assumed you weren't serious about anti-slavery. For that I apologize. But so what if the Man places bounties on you for being a freedom fighter. If you're not against the Man, you're with him.

Obviously a specific slave liberation game mechanic is what everyone wants. If Frontier could just make the 'DISCARD' option change to read 'LIBERATE' when selecting [Imperial] Slaves in a spaceport, that would be a start. But a handful of isolated players trying to find ways around the system isn't going to persuade FD to change anything. There has to be a big player group like the Fuel Rats, except instead of refuelling people they spend all their game time doing organized anti-slavery stuff, and posting illustrated reports on a group forum thread or website. FD take notice of stuff like that. But I just don't yet see anyone who wants it badly enough.

I've actually done exactly this before.

Unfortunately there just aren't enough players in Open hauling slaves these days to realistically be able to find them.
