Macro's?? Or switch power settings or preferred state saves

I wonder if macros can be developed for Elite. I have 2 big guns, but can only use one at a time, due to power limitations. So, I do a few shots with my plasma gun, look over (loving the VR), switch my power settings, reversing my plasma and rail gun order of preference, then shoot a while with the rail gun. The "macro" is looking over, doing those few switches, and all good. It'd be great if this could be made into a toggle-able thing.

But I now realize there are a number of things like that. FDev, make an in game macro system. <I suppose I could figure that out in my controller thing but...>

Let me make sure I understand this. Your ship does not have enough power to have both your plasma accelerator and railgun powered at the same time, so you need to go into your power priorities and turn off one of them to switch to the other?

Honestly, I'm kinda curious as to how your ship is setup. There may be a solution to your problem that does not require a macro.

If there isn't a viable solution, an alternative to using a macro would be to have one of the guns on a different power priority than the other gun and simply toggle the gun on the higher priority on or off depending on which gun you want to use. Let's say you have the railgun on priority 4 and the PA on priority 3. In this case when you want to use the PA you toggle the PA on putting power priority 4 over your power plant's maximum output, which automatically disables the railgun. when you want to switch back to the railgun, toggle the PA off to allow power priority 4 to turn back on so you can use the railgun. No need to swap the order of power priorities, just look over, spam the confirm button a few times (works best if you already have the PA selected in your module tab) and go back to fighting.

what he said is ok, but even better...are you aware of power priority settings? sounds like you are
if so, or if not, on the modules tab, set un needed thing for combat to a higher number so they shut off allowing the items with the lower numbers to remain powered
so for example set something like
cargo bay - 5
docking computer - 5
fsd - 1
life support - 1
thrusters - 1
shield & boosters - 2
weapons - 3
distributor between 1-3
anything else set to 5 and if your ship can then handle that, you can fine tune it for how you really want it...
you could also set fsd to 5 which helps even more than stuff like cargo and dc, but if you do you will no longer have a quick escape ability

this works for emergencies like if your power plant is getting damaged as well as for a ship that simply has not got quite enough power. to a degree
and to see what this degree might be for you...on the modules tab, what amount % of power does it say you are using...

if this still doesn't do the trick, you might just need a better PP or engineer it and/or the weapons

that all aside, you can easily make a macro to turn things on/off and/or change power priorities, but tbh its better to be able to setup a ship properly

Yup, reset my power priorities, and all fine now. And, another post I made recently was for FSD recharge should be displayed. So, with my updated power settings, that's not as needed, but at times I think it'd be good to have this ability to switch or setup priority profiles. This could lead to settings becoming more crucial, for multi purpose ships, SRV etc. Thanks for that!

That's exactly what I was doing before, which spawned the idea of "why should I do it, when a macro can do it for me". I've never set up a macro before, so I'll look into that, but I have seen other programs that have macro capturing, etc.
