Off Show Housing

I have noticed from the released screen shots that when animals are laying down resting, they appear to be doing so on some type of straw bedding. I wonder if we get to place that straw bedding and designate an area where an animal will go to rest or sleep. And if that is true, then I would think we would be able to place a structure around it and make it there off show housing. There is a screen shot showing a giraffe laying on the straw bedding under a large canopy like structure. Why not just place walls around it and call it a giraffe barn? What do others think.

Yes, you will be able to have the creativity to do this. You build your shelter, put the straw bedding in there, and they'll go there to sleep.

Yeah, that is why I am not sure what I suggested about off show housing will work. The screen shot above could just be one of the animations the giraffe normally uses, but only laying on the straw bed will replenish an animals rest / sleep needs. If that's the way Planet Zoo will even work.

I believe animals will rest anywhere, but they will only sleep on the straw beds.

We know we can build our own shelters for animals using the piece-by-piece system, and seen that the animals recognize these as safe spaces from weather in the E3 Demo. I think it's safe to say, that if you build an Elephant House (for example) and there isn't additional shelter then could seek (overhangs in terrain, trees possibly) then they would seek out shelter there. You could probably compound that effect by either moving food/water inside, and/or if in extreme climates (Very Warm or Cool) then you could add the appropriate environmental control unit (heater or air conditioner) indoors and the animals should congregate indoors while weather doesn't agree with them.

I believe what Evolution said above would also work, and possibly, in the extreme environments, you could possibly have animals who wouldn't do well in them, live indoors permanatley (think reptile, bird houses, or tropical houses/pavilions) with a bit of help from environmental controls. That is a big guess, but I think a safe one.

I think what you and Evolution said is right. Reading the latest Developers Journal about weather it makes me think that we will be able to build indoor housing. Really hope so. I would really like to build proper off show areas just as much as public exhibits.
