How about an Imperial Cobra produced by Gutyamaya?

Like this idea - Less angular hull design, more like a Star Gate F302 in terms of curvature/profile. A natural white hull and relatively plush black/white interior.

That, and it’s actually a great ship with a lot to offer, unlike the Cobra IV.

Tiny firepower increase, more cargo, worse everything else. That’s what you get when you move to a Cobra III to a IV lol.

It might fill a niche early game, but as easy as credits are to come by anymore, there really isn’t a point in buying one vs other early game ships.

False in essence, the CM4 has greater optional slot outfitting options than the CM3.

Yeah, more cargo kinda highlights the additional internals, does it not? Doesn’t change the fact that it’s a meh upgrade when other lower tier ships easily outclass it.

Vs a Cobra III:
Lower jump range
Awful maneuverability
Considerably slower

In combat, it’s inferior to the Cobra III.

In exploration, it’s at best, equal to the Cobra III, sacrificing range for maybe an extra gadget.

Trading or mining is the only thing it’s truly better at, simply because of the additional cargo you can carry. What else are you going to do with those internal slots to make it better than a Cobra III? Put more defenses in them so you can face tank NPCs harder, instead of easily outmaneuveing them?

Maybe if they buffed it a little, I’d understand.

As someone who has access to a Cobra IV, I can promise you that you aren’t missing much.

By the time you get into a Cobra III, you’re already beyond the point where the IV would be a logical stepping stone. This is especially true these days, since credits are so easy to come by anymore.

As someone who already has access to a CM4 I can say my assessment is based on PERSONAL experience and not the conjecture you seem to imply it is.

I already have at least one of every ship and while I do not go back to the CM4 that often I am more likely to go back to the CM4 than I am the CM3, even in combat the CM4 is not that bad.

As for credits being easy to come by, debatable - I would argue they are not so easy to come by as to make rebuy completely irrelevant.

As for anyone missing anything by not having access to the CM4 specifically, I am inclined to agree - it is not that unique a ship to be worth arguing over but it is worth having if the opportunity arises.

Otherwise, the suggestion to offer it in some sort of future pre-order package again is pretty good.

Thinking about that - perhaps the alternate to the CM4 is what should be put forward for the pre-order package so that existing CM4 owners are not diddled.

If it ever was released to everyone the way it is now, I feel it would be nothing but a disappointment.

Suggestion A- Licenced Partnership (win/win for both those who do and do not have the MK4):

In real life, it is known for many companies to distribute products off to separate country's manufacturers rebranded (and sometimes adjusted) in a form of synergy. this ranges from guns, military vehicles and even your standard civilian car. these examples keep their appearance in general but are rebadged and often adjusted to the requirements of the receiving manufacturer. a great example of this is the use of the Holden Commodore, of which I already know (could be other examples) has been re-distributed to Europe (under the badge of Opel) and to the USA (under the badge of Chevrolet). same car, different branding and sometimes even a different engine.

I like your ideas, although I personally think a better example is the current Jeep Renegade, which is a just Fiat Panda with some minor cosmetic changes.

But, I'm a Jeep guy when not in a spaceship, so I'm biased.

The Viper Mk4 is essentially the Cobra Mk4 with more focus on combat.

No.. Just no.

The MKIV Viper is infinitely better in amost every respect. It can tank just as well, it's faster, it has better looks a better handling profile and c'mon. It's a Viper. The only thing it looses out on really is a small volume of internal room which is largely irrelevant because it does'nt handle like a bloody potato.
Sure it has slightly less damage potential however its ability to apply that damage is massively superior to the MKIV Cobra.

As jests go, I didn't quite 'get it'. However, the title 'Commodore' brought back to mind the days of the Commodore Amiga - playing Frontier Elite 2 and First Encounters on the A1200.

Like I said, is essentially the VM4 but more focused on combat than the CM4 - balance wise they are at the same level just with different roles.

I honestly think that many in these forums do not understand the concept of how balancing should be done... at least FD does.

What gets me about the CM4 detractors is they focus on it in relation to how it handles in combat. Combat is its least viable role, but it can still be a decent combat ship, especially a hull tank. And they say how bad its manouverability and speed are... right, in relation to the CM3? But its a small ship so still fairly nimble compared to larger ships and its still reasonably fast.
