How to avoid Gankers.

You have identified where the analogy breaks down.

No one is throwing anyone into the ring that is open except... themselves.

For the record, I was talking more about the idea that a novice is taken apart by a group of far better equipped and experienced opponents.
It's quite unsporting to say the least to demonise a group of players simply because thier definition of fun is different to yours.

If you’re saying that you gank, that you and your mates get together to hang out in places, specifically to hunt out lesser equipped and experienced opponents then I would question what fun you’re getting out of it. It is rather kicking tied down puppies, in my eyes.

If you feel ok with it and have the opinion there is nothing wrong with it, you’re entitled to. I am equally entitled to hold a different opinion.

If you’re saying however that PvP players who do not partake in the above activities are getting tarred with the same brush, then I understand your frustration.

Just a note, it probably does say somewhere, ‘By clicking open you MAY meet other commanders’, though I’m sure it doesn’t say, ‘The entire point of open is to kill each other, all other aspects of the game should be done elsewhere’.

In Open Play there's always a bigger shark out there somewhere. This is intentional. You don't understand that.

In fairness, it would be odd if a novice in a basic, stock ship set upon by a group of experienced veterans in top-tier predator rigs wasn't taken apart. This is why we have modes, to say nothing of a wealth of survival advice from the more experience members of the community.

The hardest part for too many is overcoming the attitude that they are entitled to an open experience free of adversity and setback. This isn't what open is about, and to protest otherwise is both pathetic and delusional.

Yes, I do understand that and in the noble art of PvP I’m sure people get bit all the time but a gang of people, specifically out to hunt a single, far, far weaker opponent, to me, is questionable. I also know not all PvPers are doing this.

I’m not asking for changes or anything. I don’t play in open, I’m rubbish at combat, I didn’t buy the game for combat.

Then why are you commenting at all about combat, much less Open Play?

One, because it’s allowed. Two, I have the opinion that the very specific act of getting together in a gang to hunt out a singular, far weaker opponent is questionable.

In the UK, if you kill a dog by running it over in your car, by law, you are supposed to report that to the police. If you run a cat over, there is no law forcing you to report it. This does not make it ok to go out in your car specifically to run cats over, because there are no rules.

Stop making analogies with the real word, because this is a game with its own set of rules and start distinguishing between the two of them.

Animal cruelty laws would stop you. But what do cats have to do with elite?

Not going to point out the irony in this response.. Oh wait I just did..

Why not try shooting back? Most PvP players/Gankers/Greifers are people just trying to have fun in thier game. Sure some of them are catastrophic jeb ends but the majority are not.

The problem isn't the gankers themselves. There's always going to be weirdos. The issue is the mechanisms (or lack of) to control it. Other games deal with this with relative ease. FDev struggle badly with basic mechanics as is evident from almost every aspect of the game.

I'm not going to argue about it. Can one play solo and avoid them? Yes, but it shouldn't be necessary and indeed isn't in other online games. They hashed this element of the game and are too scared to radically overhaul the way PvP works. As someone mentioned, making an error in your first online game is understandable...but you should try to fix it. It's too far gone now. PvP in this game is rubbish. Ability is secondary to who's got time to grind engineering....and those guys tend to be the oddballs who can play video games for hours each day.

So you only box in solo mode as well, huh?

I got into a ring and boxed. I didn't get attacked by random guys in the gym.

I'm sadly too old now. At 34, I can't get my card any more (as i turn 35 mid-season). It's deemed too dangerous for me to fight.
