Cobra Mk 4: open it up for everyone to buy this Xmas during Special Effect Livestream

I keep saying, that some owners feel vilified.

Now apparently. We have become elitists and we are oppressing, the poor masses.

If there is much more of this behaviour and it will be a case of F.D. having to implement marshal law. This revolt by the serfdom, needs nipping in the bud, before things go to far. Names will be added to lists. Lists of the dissidents, will have to be handed over to the system security forces; to weed out these agitators, at source.

At present I could afford additional 3900 stock Cobra IV to give out to players, if that was possible.
This one, should go straight to the top of the list.

The cheek, publicly offering to give free weapons to the masses. Offering to arm, close to 5,000 players, is a danger to us all and they must be stopped; at all costs.

Just give the thing away to everyone who pledges £5 (or more) earth money during the charity livestream.

The kinder-in-need win, commanders win and get to fly this ahem gem of a ship, and those who complain about it look like monsters. As an alpha backer LEP guy I a) don't care about its exclusivity now and b) want its exclusivity to be used as leverage in a meaningful way that helps people out.

Their whole C4-locked idea is SO stupid and stubborn in 2019. Okay for the time when it was an award to loyal customers, but that time has LONG since passed. So long that some of those "loyal customers" ditched the game for good. It's like still sticking to the same rules even when your surroundings completely changed.

I play Elder Scrolls Online and let me tell you how awards go there (fair and healthy imo). They award first time buyers, pre-purchases of all kinds, chapters, limited time offers etc. You name it. Lots of awards.

But, once the novelty wears off and awards run its course, the same exclusive items become READILY AVAILABLE for a limited time to all who want to spend the money. Usually after a year or so, collector's edition stuff can be bought for at least 2 weeks, every time there's a related event or as a featured item. Further, what was once a fully priced "chapter" becomes a DLC that goes less than half the price and is included in the subscription for FREE. Nobody feels "betrayed", you had your exclusive stuff before everyone else, you had your fun for a year, now it's not "exclusive" anymore. But people that didn't get it in time now have a chance.

Frontier Devs have lots to learn. Stubbornly catering the idea that is long since gone makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever. And financially, it's as stupid as it gets.

Despite all of the distractions and misdirections, the single fact remains in this debate.

- The Cobra MkIV was originally provided as an exclusive ship for those on PC and XBox who pre-ordered the Horizons expansion in 2015 / 2016. Since then, it has not been available to purchase.

There has been a persisent demand for that exclusivity to be lifted, primarily by Commanders that came late to the game or those who didn't buy Horizons as pre-order.
As a Playstation owner, I have never had a chance to buy or fly a Cobra MkIV.

According to EDSM, only 0.6% of active commanders own a Cobra MkIV. EDSM Stats
Frontier are missing a trick in sticking to this artificial constraint. A potential 99.4% addressible market for Cobra MkIV paint jobs. (for instance, it'll be another ship that can be sold a Black Friday Paint job in November)

I think the idea of releasing the Cobra MkIV as a donation constrained purchase is a nice way out of the issue.
  • Frontier can claim that they are doing for a good cause,
  • existing owners who don't want to share will struggle to justify the continued opposition,
  • the remaining commanders can decide whether they wish to buy it or not.

It may be a bit difficult for Frontier to code as the ship purchase screen is not normally linked to redeeming voucher codes on the store but as a suggestion, I like the idea.

Blame the ones that go out of their way to make the worst of a bad situation before you blame the enquirers reacting to this.

I only 'blame' F.D. for this mess.

Many of those who have missed the boat; chose to blame the owners. Now we have talk of, oppressed masses and of the Elitists, lording it over those not privileged enough to own the ship. Such reactionary talk, can only incite anger and hatred towards, all innocent Cobra IV owners. It builds ill-feeling on both sides and creates a; them and us, mentality.

So if I am to be branded as such, then my role play hat goes on and I will act accordingly. Threats have been made and must be taken seriously. Sides have been chosen and even some Cobra IV owners, have offered to arm the rabble, with this fantastic weapons platform. These actions must be opposed, must be stopped; because anarchy and the collapse, of the whole system; is just one shot away.

I do not mind anybody completely copying the MkIV 'Sound of Silence' post. I have already used it an another current "We want the Cobra MkIV" thread.
I posted the Disturbed youtube video, of the song in a thread a couple of months ago. I can't remember if it was a Cobra IV thread, or the POOP thread.

I love your own twist on the song, though.

I introduced my Mother (over 70 years old) to the Disturbed "Sound of Silence" cover. I was not sure how she would respond. Imagine my surprise when she said she would have to look on Amazon for more of their stuff!!!

She's one impressive mother... now, wouldn't you say?
You don't know the half of her! She was a successful author (she has had around 10 books published, and been paid for them), ran the UK logistics department of a multinational company well, did (in her teens) a vehicle apprenticeship, and was the first Siamese cat breeder to breed TWO European Grand Champion International cats (oh, and she brought up me and my three brothers pretty well).

funny, for once i blame the players for this.

the decision to make it exclusive? neither good nor bad. that was their call, nothing to blame.
i would blame them if they broke their word. not a big issue, but yeah, not good.

people that can't accept this and want the cobra4 anyway no matter what and need to create zillions of threads about it acting like spoiled kids? clearly their own fault (and/or their parents').

i see no other issue here, and no mess. just regular forum entertainment: kiddos whining and everyone spouting their deep and insightful opinion on a non-issue. here's my contribution :)

This is a game about unrestrained capitalism (not as much as EVE, maybe, but still). And the game about capitalism is great fun.
I have to disagree with you on that point in regards to ED, it is not specifically about unrestrained capitalism anymore than it is about anything else so specific - it can be played many different ways but essentially it is first and foremost about piloting space craft in a particular open world/universe/galaxy setting.
