The Hauler - The Pilot

I used that once. I needed to land on a planet below to collect some mats. I was kind of lazy to re-equip my current ship with the srv hangar and did not want to wait for transport of my mats-collect-jumper. So I was kind of "why not?", purchased and A-rated it just for one time landing. Not sure if I sold it. Maybe it is still somewhere in shipyard.

You should. It's a fun little ship.

Don't even need to A-rate it. D-rated with Enhanced Thrusters and a souped up FSD is even more fun.

Oh dear, another The Pilot video!
Thank you kind sir, amusing as always and likewise, as always, forcing me to visit Coriolis.io and fit one out before doing just that in game - it is one of the ships I never tried...

Another brilliant take on another unloved ship!

Hmm....

Hauler is >by far< the cheapest ride that'll still serve you as a fully qualified Exploration Ship - or long-range bubble taxi.
And a Hauler can go well over 600m/sec. It isn't slow if you know how to Engineer it and keep it light, so the Enhanced Performance Thrusters can do their magic.

In a sense, it certainly qualifies for "best bang for the buck" if you're flipping Pennies.
(it's just that these Pennies have become worthless over time; the classic Ship progression and all the experience that it offers is a thing of the past)

Tiny and cheap, so it won't break any records. But that's not what it's made for.
Alot of things can be said about the Hauler but one thing it never did : it never made a CMDR poor.

If you want to make the Hauler run cool for fuel scooping, switch off every module you don't need as soon as you leave the station. That includes the Power distributor, cargo hatch and shields. Those three things would reduce power consumption by over 30% on an explorer Hauler.

There is exactly one thing the hauler is not completely garbage for:

You can make it go stupidly fast.

Sure, it's no racing Eagle, more like a Civic Hatchback on the track, but at least it has that.

I made my first million in a Hauler running Mineral Extractors from McMahon Dock in Eravate to Fairbairn Station in LHS 3447 and bringing back precious metals (silver, gold, then palladium). My first milk run as a young trader in 3300.

Good times and fond memories!

Smart! I didn't think of that.

I mean, I shouldn't have to think of that. But it's nice to know it's an option.

That pretty much sums it up, it's cheap and probably the next step that most cmdrs will upgrade from their sidey. Have to admit I actually skipped it and went with the Adder instead, which I think is a little better imho.

Likewise, I went from Sidewinder to Adder, to Viper IV, to Imperial Courier, to Keelback, to Type-7, then Type-9. Then I started flying the Orca, and going back to anything else was tough - unless I wanted to move mountains of freight, or stop by Hutton Orbital.
