Ratings' cooldown.

In the game we have various ratings: trading, combat, exploration. And reputations with factions and superpowers.
I'd like to discuss adding cooldown to them.
For example if I stopped trading, my trading rating is expected to fall over time. It will be harder to keep triple elite and it will mean real achievement.
Negative reputation with faction should go to neutral over time - I can leave the region and return much later and they already forgot about me.
 
So people lose their engineered 'vettes and cutters if they don't keep playing? I can see that going down well ;)

You wouldn't lose them. Just like prismatic shields you just wouldn't be able to buy them again until you have the rank again. Bu the game wouldn't just take the items from you.

+1 due to making sense. If I was to stop running every day I would get worse at running over time and have to retrain. +1
 
Cooldown makes sense only at the faction standings. The pilot federation, imperial and federation ranks are just honorary titles. Like if you do the complete El Camino, you receive some cert to prove you did it, and an honorary title of Pilgrim*, but you wont loose them if you never go again.

* i just made these up for the sake of example, i have no idea if there's something like this in reality or not
