ARX bonus for ...

SOLO players have access to most of the features OPEN players have access to - but not everything. If it comes to the point where no players play in OPEN, all of these added features for multiplayer would be pointless additions to the game as no one would be in OPEN to use them.
Except for the fact that Solo and Open are only two of the three game mode options available to players - each player (who has access to multi-player at all) can create a Private Group.

Both Open and Private Groups enjoy all of the multi-player features of the game

One of the other points about the suggestion was to try and encourage players to actually play in OPEN.

I understand the point you’re making. Great multiplayer features, rusting away, what a wasted opportunity. Thing is, I have pretty much exclusively enjoyed single player games. I even got annoyed in one of the Fallout games because you had that stupid dog following you.

I played a fair bit of Red Dead 1 online and I was a record holder on several tracks on Driveclub (Multiplayer car/bike racing game). There were idiots on both of those games, gankers or those that didn’t race sportingly. It wasn’t those that put me off, it is the very basic interaction with other humans I don’t want.

I’m certain that not everyone in open on Elite is an annoying idiot but I really just prefer the SOLO experience. Even if they were somehow able to create a C&P system that reduced the ‘seal clubbing’ gankers or some new game mechanic that properly promoted co-op gameplay rather than attack mode, I still wouldn’t play in it.

I’ve owned loads of games that have had an additional multiplayer feature that I’ve never once used. No amount of encouragement from FDev is going to get me in OPEN, I’m just completely unsociable in that sense. I suspect I’m not the only one.

Finally, I know have said this at least twice now so forgive me for repeating myself, ARX is real money and the idea that they will be sloshing it around at incredible rates is just plain silly. The reality is, our ability to earn ARX is going to be quite small, no matter what.

True enough. At least if no one plays in OPEN mode for this MMO, there's still the option to play in a private group.
A bit over a year ago, Sandro indicated that the majority of players play in Open while both Solo and Private Groups enjoy significant portions of the player-base.

I doubt that the game will end up in a position where no-one plays in Open - it remains an option for those inclined to experience gameplay it facilitates.

Somewhat related:
You should come around to Carcosa and give Open a try, it's really fun.
Yesterday we did some wing mining, the day before I escorted a squad mate to an engineer base to make sure he can
engineer his hull and bring the 200 tons of progenitor cells safely there.
One day before that we had some nice wing action in an "enemy" system where we had a full wing of two FdLs and two Corvettes entertained by an Imperial Eagle 😂
It's a living universe out there(y)

Regarding your last sentence, as said before I fully agree. Keep real money out of the open/PG/solo debate...

Wing mining could be a blast (no pun intended) by the idea that I have the skills to escort anyone is a gross overestimation. They’d be in more danger from my reckless flying.

I’m a couple of jumps from Carcosa but on the PS4.

I'm exactly the same. Sometimes I want to interact with other players, but for the most part, I'm staying home on my own because I don't want to interact with other people.

If I did, I'd go to the pub.
