Interesting point of view from a long time ED Streamer on Fleet Carriers

Trying to have carebears and pvp cohabitate in the same galaxy is just not going to work, it hasn't worked til now and won't in the future.
I'm not too sure about that. When I want to get in my carebear small boi pants, I have solo and PvE private groups at my disposal. When go careless bear and I wish to see random CMDRs not limited to groups, I don the big boi clown pants and log into Open.

Not saying the situation is perfect, since I would like to play in Open without the PvP, but I'm aware of the practical considerations which prevent that situation from happening.

When it regards PvP, it's not the modes but the lack of PvP specific content which I see as the main problem. Which by the way is why I find the longing for Open Only Powerplay by a large group of PvPers such a puzzling sentiment, since locking it to one mode still doesn't make it PvP specific content, but that's another thread.

Fact of the matter is, Elite will never be a game where PvP is king. So for those who want to go on the "I am better at PvP than you are, so that allows me to interfere with your game whenever I desire" night-train, this isn't the game. This will never be that game.

His main point was carriers should be squadron assets, because there is not enough multiplayer elements, and some of his best memories from the game are playing with others....
Same here. Distant Worlds Expedition. In a Private Group.

But those were explorers who aren't relying on others to create their content, but use the tools at their disposal to come up with it themselves.

I agree! The problem is lack of PvP content.. But should they [fdev] assign ergs to creating more? And if so, should it be done to the detriment of the PvE?

No, it shouldn't come at a cost to any play style. Everytime someone proposes, myself included, some way to offer PvP validity in the game, that suggestion is shouted down in preference for Open-Only-<insert issue> demands. I can't believe, with this in mind, that the PvP crowd really wants specific content, rather than simply unwitting targets.

I suggested that PvP contests brought to their conclusion, should offer a Voucher that can be turned in for credits and influence. Nope, it didn't insist that everyone become content, so the idea was/is rejected. Until the PvP can come up with a plan that doesn't force themselves on the community, we are stuck with the noisy sour grapes from that faction of players. Physician heal thyself.
 
Hmm, I would like to know how the whole PvP problem in Open would change if FD make some small adjustments:

1. Death in PvP means only that player will respawn around the nearest star.
2. There is no rebuy in case of PvP death.
3. There is no loss in crago, exploration etc.

Pure and simply just reborn at the nearest waypoint (star).

Pure and simply just reborn at the nearest waypoint (star).

4. Insanely fast and OP auto deploying repair limpets
5. Combat log assist module
6. Just show an explosion but don't destroy the ship (y)
6a. Change the blue danoob for the yakity sax
