I think we owe an apology to FD including my self.

The problem is mainly of direction. ED has had in its life a lot of direction changes- the Brookes 'era' which was all about lore and story. Sandro was next who took over and now we have someone new again....each time ED lurches in a random direction and forgets about cohesion.

Plus each update is seen as 'thats it' for ages. CQC, Powerplay, MC, hopefully not FC, etc. Each section is brought in and for a long time is forgotten. It also comes in with little consideration for internal consistency- stuff like telepresence in SLFs for example was a consistency nightmare.

Lastly, its clear ED does not fit the new pattern FD want going forwards. Unlike all its other games ED is an MMO /lite that requires significant daily dev input- input that seems to be waning. Case in point Galnet, case in point Powerplay (weekly data spreadsheets canned, updates MIA etc) case in point CQC, case in point involving competitions like the Icarus Cup. My only real point of optimism is that Elite is in DB's blood, its his baby and its that keeping it going.

I do agree with a lot of what the OP said, but I also think that the development has taken a lot of unnecessary detours, some of which have ultimately turned out to be dead ends, the biggest culprits being power play and multi crew.

Many times a lot of people including me have been "angry" for this or that matter in the game. But it is difficult to understand how complex the whole "Universe" of ED is.Nothing , although procedurally generated has such a vast gameplaying area.We might be grumbling that ED has no content to keep going , but remember that is difficult to achieve it in such wide scale.Keep in mind that ED was advertised as 10 year plan.We already are at 4th year and still have 6 years left.We are not even in the middle! There were many times that we were furious about server problems including my self but don't forget that we are npt paying for servers cost because of the P2P model.Perhaps one of the hidden updates coming in 2020 is a server model upgrade , who knows? It might take more time than is was said to us by FD but in the end they always deliver.Remember Fleet Carriers ? We are getting them free as it was advertised , but later. Was that a delay for better implementation ? Have you asked your selves? I bet that we will be getting also Ice Planets improvements before the next major update of 2020!.So for the times i ve been grumbling i have to reconsider as most of us here. Maybe some of the things we asked to be implemented in game are more difficult to achieve without breaking something else.Even if some of you are programmers and know alot about coding , i am most certain that ED is probably one if not the most complex of games out there.
So all of us including myself should be greatfully that FD gave us the best Space Experience for years to come.

You do you.

Sorry but I disagree.

We don't owe FD an apology. I would say that most of the people who post on these forums do so because they like / love the game and want the best for it. There are of course trolls and those that just like to stir things up but I believe they are a very small minority.

I don't think these forums are exceptional or particularly salty despite what some would have you believe. Just go onto any game forum, there are thousands of them and from my experience the FD forums are actually quite placid and well mannered compared to some.

The game has issues, many issues, as pointed out in this thread and thousands of others over the years. This forum is our channel to bring these issues into the spotlight and to the attention of FD. Telling FD that the game has bugs or a feature doesn't work properly or we find their pace of development to be too slow is one of the reasons for these forums exist.

There is nothing to apologise for....if you feel the need, you go right ahead, freedom of expression and all that. ;)

I agree.

The trouble is, the whiny, perpetually offended, 0.1% of society seem to be in the ascendency when, instead, we should simply be ignoring them instead of posting links to the articles they write.

Instead of being whiny and perpetually offended by the article why don't you try ignoring it ?.

Well, the game is playable and I'm enjoying it. So thanks FDev, you've created something I find entertaining.

Now if you could just scrape all the elephant butts off it and finish some of the things you've started I'll be even happier.

apology my ARX!...but you go right ahead if you feel the need.

also I think you owe us an apology for that wall of text too as long as you're apologizing.

As a rule, when people publish things it's because they're looking for attention.

Having offered my opinion on it, I will happily ignore it for the nonsense it is, just like 99.9% of people do. (y)

We are going through an agile training class right now and one of the big points is that customers don't remember what you do right, they remember only what they don't like. The number this teacher keeps throwing out is 2/3rds right but 1/3rd wrong and the customer only remembers the 1/3rd. I think its more 80/20 or even 90/10, but it has been my experience that customers (as they are humans) tend to remember and dwell only on the bad.

Blimy, I was saying that 30 years ago! "Do something right and they'll never remember. Do something wrong and they'll never forget."

Or they are trying to get their message across.
