Fix 'Boom Time Delivery' Missions

I understand what happened. It's a trap which many people fell into the first time. But preventing things like this can get insanely complex. I mean, the game filters on what your current ship can do.
... which is why the OP just asked to be able to re-depot the goods.

The general direction of missions has been to let you take missions and refit to take them (that is part of what depots allow), rather than add the guide-rails you talk about. I wish they would add something like the depot to passenger missions - the number of times I turn up at a location, see a nice set of pax missions but by the time my pax ship has arrived they all have magically vanished...

Yeah - read the mission brief but also being able to give the cargo back switch ships and then pick the cargo up again should be an option really and solves these problems quite happily.

even if you have to get an 'I did not read the mission brief correctly' 100 credit fine for the extra loading/unloading the virtual station people have to do.

Maybe it should come with a trophy!

So, I've had this happen before too, and while yes, there's some UI/basic gameplay changes which could make it more obvious/prevent the player doing that sort of thing (I'd rather not have the player stopped from doing it), I also don't see them as entirely necessary.

I've had scenarios crop up where I've accepted =~ a dozen missions thinking I'd have time to do them, then life happened and I had to ditch them all. Thing being, it was in no way a dealbreaker. I'd recovered from that in about 30 minutes of playing the next day.

In other words, sure it could be fixed, but tbh there's bigger fish to fry... it's a very minor problem.

The thread is degenerating into the factions again, and the mud slinging will start to be thrown. Basically it is down to the people who read everything before doing anything, (Perfect Homoerectus) and the people who don't read enough before doing anything (Normal Homosapians)

Most of us fall into the latter category and are just human, therefore susceptible to the odd mistakes, and a little 'Simple' guidance here and there is not much to ask for! Is it?

However, here is where my dislike comes into this discussion, the Normal Homosapians who repeat this error numerous times, should be reclassified as 'Sub-Normal Homo stupidnesserectus '. make a mistake and LEARN from it!

That is why I like the OP’s suggestion - it’s a human thing to problem solve.

When I arrived at the Outpost and had my whoops moment, my thought process went along these lines:

“Right, jump back to the mission Station, drop the cargo back to the depot, get the Krait out of storage -had a bit of a think about what internals I could replace with cargo bays-, load back up at the depot, probably have to make two runs...”

...record scratch, Game says “no”. No problem solving allowed here, thankyouverymuch.

So much for that bit of gameplay I was going to have! :)

look at it from the perspective of real life from the customers view, delivery people that don't pay attention to the job tend to get no tip, and sometimes get sued or fired or both.
its a job you accept, you either pay attention to detail or you lose out.
And aside from what Jmanis first post says, which is also a far better option than abandoning a mission, this is a good time to try and find another cmdr that could help you out and hold your cargo while you change ships.

as for storage, its been pointed out in here why its bad and can and would lead to exploits, so from that it is very likely never going to happen.
Your best bet for storage is to get another account or more and then you can use big freighters for storage and swapping cargo around for various reasons, its an old method but works well.

Even for mission-specific cargo? I'd be surprised if it can still be handed in after being swapped between CMDRs (though ED does regularly surprise me :) ).

I accepted a few missions while in a medium sized ship and then accidentally filled up my large sized ship with the mission items for multiple 'Boom time delivery' missions. It was only when I arrived at the delivery station that I realized it had no large pads. I should have paid attention and I accept that. I would be happy to accept my failure and return back to my medium sized ship and carry out the missions individually, but I was unable to. I was forced to abandon missions because I had no way to manage inventory between ships. Please add a way to return mission items back to the source.
So let get this straight. You accepted a mission in a Medium size ship. Then switch to a Large ship with out researching it first. To see if a mission you accepted in a medium ship could be done in a large ship. It like going into a City and going Geez If I take my Large truck and not researching to find out There no truck parking in the city.

So here my advice. When you accept a mission in a smaller ship and you want to switch to a large ship. Stop playing stupid and research it first.

Anyway. I plan to redecorate my living room - I'm gonna put these all over the floor:

If anyone gets caught I'm gonna yell at them "Why did you not check where you were stepping! It's all your fault - idiot! Obviously you should always check for bear traps!".

Or I guess I could just put down a carpet, but I dunno - then I wouldn't get to yell at people 🤔

Hopefully he learned from his mistake, everybody makes them at times.
Not everyone jumps on the forum to demand FD change the game to fix their screw ups.

You could use Pets watch where you walk so you don't trip over them. Or Oh there a cliff and seeing water below and going Geez I going to jump in. Then either dead or complaining about the pain going. I though it was deeper and it was not so high. Sitting at home in a body cast afterwords.
