[BREAKING NEWS] Largest Heist In Galactic History Takes Place: EIC Robbed by The Code

but the point is it's a group where everyone wants to RP piracy

And that's a pretty narrow subset of people, even among those who are perfectly accepting of such encounters when they occur.

Having to deal with the occasional individual who feels entitled to treat Open as something else is a small price to pay for as complete an experience as possible with as many potential encounters as possible.

If I had to switch to a different PG every time I felt like a different experience, I'd rarely encounter anyone at all. So, I always choose Open, no matter what it is I have planned for my CMDR, if I even have anything for my CMDR.

Hell, I've been testing shadow tables for the last three day...still doing it in Open, because an encounter, friendly or otherwise, could be an interesting respite.

After clicking Open their willingness to be pirated or not is moot. They have consented. If they think otherwise they are at best ignorant and at worst a fool.

The vermissiltude of any pirate encounter in a game worth it's salt requires the element of the unexpected, the surprise, the virtual act of robbery.

What you describe is mere hide and go seek. Sorry, but I played that one out ages ago.

Except, that they. both the pirate and the trader, can change their minds at any time.

Disappear. Duh.

I mean... sure, if that's how you want to contribute to the discussion?

Actually you should be just as likely to be pirated in any mode since NPCs are pirates as well. The difference then is the minigame and the ship and player abilities. So you might be consenting to be successfully pirated, which a good portion of the time can equate to being ganked without being asked for anything, and that's something you only get in other modes if you are, like me, persona non grata.

Why are we talking about modes and combat logging?

We're talking about the PvP pirate experience and why doing it organically in Open Play wipes the floor with the PG idea Brrock endorses in terms of fun, immersion, and all the things people look for when they engage in PvP piracy.

C'mon, people. Get with it.

Boring is, as boring does. If a conversation needs a cheerleader, well.....

Or, I can make of it what I want. How about that?

Which I can't imagine will be much.

Anyway, to bring it back in, I'd like to address one more bit about Brrock's PG idea.

I've not done it much, but on the occasion I have undertaken activities where it was likely I could be attacked or pirated in Open Play (Void Opal mining or hauling CGs, to name two) the fact that I didn't know what to expect was a huge part of the reason why I had fun doing it.

There's a thrill, an essence, to the unknown. You lose that when one side runs off while the other counts to 10.
