Dinosaurs Play animations

I think it would be neat to give the dinosaurs some play animations: something so that the dinosaurs do more than clip through each other, or use the existing Socializing behaviour.
  • Small carnivores practicing stalking behaviour on each other, with two outcomes - getting caught and running off, or successfully tackling another dino to the ground
  • Pachycephalosaurus mock battling, butting heads at least once before separating (at the moment, the fights for dominance just end up with them staring at each other for a while)
  • Ceratopsidae could also butt heads, mock fighting
  • Sauropods could startle orthimimidae - neck bends down to nudge a small ground level dinosaur that then runs off
  • Ankylosarous could strike trees or the ground with their tails occassionally
  • Dinosaurs could chase each other, without kill animations
  • Randomly, dinosaurs could become 'buddies' - two dinosaurs that tend to follow each other round, rather than their respective herds
    • That would be an interesting mechanic alongside Social requirements - allow dinosaurs to accept other species towards their Social count, but that means that they have a Comfort penalty if you separate 'buddies'
    • For example, a paddock might have an Iganodon herd that a lone Ankylosaurus joins

To be a bit more sophisticated, species that share enclosures could get territorial about feeders, with alphas eating first, and possibly blocking members from another species from using the feeder till they have finished.

Some of these may actually be possible to implement like head butting pachys (not the hard bone-cracking "thwack" that they do when they get angry) and ceratopsians, sauropod interactions with smaller herbivores, and ankylosaurs interacting with certain (scenery) trees. Only because, some of these can be actual script animation sequences when two individual dinosaurs interact with one another, similar as to how the predators hunt a prey item (goat, human, or another dinosaur).

Although the one thing about the small carnivore interactions, I see it being that two individuals could be just "play fighting" face-to-face instead. You know, jumping and lashing their claws at each other and/or pouncing onto one another, without actually hurting themselves. Something similar to what the three raptor species in Zoo Tycoon 2 can actually do, for instance (except the pouncing part).

A "Playing" icon on their tags and profiles would probably be like a soccer ball or something similar, kind of like how when a carnivore is "Hunting" their icons are three claw marks, for example.

I like these. I was sad when i found out the pachys don't headbutt. That is my favorite dinosaur and none of pachysauridae do it. I would like to see ankylos smack the ground with their tails.

Another interesting idea is "ambushing." Some of these dinos are ambushers and therefore should practice stalking and implement it when hunting much smaller dinos. Like a T Rex bursting through the trees at the gallimimus

They can actually head butt each other in-game, but it’s not the kind of frequency you were probably expecting. They only do this when their comfort meters are in the red zone. They do this when they actually “fight” and beat each other up like how a carnivore would attack each other in face-to-face combat. When two pachys head butt in combat it’s the “direct head-to head bone-cracking sounding” bash animation.

The kind I think could work for regular cosmetic head butting would be a less hard sounding smack, less aggressive, interaction. Or perhaps hit each other briefly beside one another’s faces.

A really simple interaction would be to have dinosaurs (sometimes) look at each other when they walk nearby - particularly sauropods.

Small dinosaurs could get startled and run to get out of the way of larger dinosaurs.

I really love the sauropod teasing the smaller dinosaurs. In reality, animals would play around or mess with other animals (monkeys, elephants, dogs). So having more interactions between species that is not a kill is a great implementation!

I like these ideas. For large carnivores mabye they could suddenly charge at viewing galleries and scare guests inside. I think the sauropod one would be really awesome.

Another idea for “Playing” dinosaurs that has come to mind is for the carnotaurus. Where two carnos will head but each other stay locked in place before stepping back, inspired by this piece of art by Luis V. Rey from an old book I have. It’s not the best quality, I’ll admit, but still.

According to the In-Gen database, rival Carnotaurus usually use this type of battling (headbutting with the horns). So it should either be a play animation for them, or a "Fighting for Dominance" animation.

There are two other ideas for "Playing" dinosaurs I just came up with.

When carnivores do their "Hunting" behavior, it requires an amount of open space for their script sequences to work. "Playing" could do the same thing, and for the three in-game ornithomimids, it could use a quite bit of space for their own sequence. Two ornithomimids would be chasing each other for fun in long extended circles until their sequence ends.

Additionally, another but similar behavior stat called "Play Chasing" would be for some of the smaller dinosaurs; the smaller herbivores and small carnivores. This could work by having two of any of the two listed types where they will chase each other around sauropods and ankylosaur armored herbivores. Where the other ideas would be fore two individual dinosaur entities, this kind of behavior would require at least three dinosaur entities at once to play the script animation sequences. With sauropods, small herbivores (ornithomimids and pachycephalosaurs) would chase around the sauropods in circles, under their necks and tails as the sauropods merely observes this joyous interaction. With ankylosaurs, the small carnivores would hop onto and run on top of their backs from the tail once after the ankys rest in place for the selected two carnivore entities to play the animations,. While the small carnivores chase each other around on over the ankys, the armored herbivores would merely observe and get quite a bit annoyed as they would then swing their tails at, but just missing, the small carnivores.

Some other ideas:
1. Taller sauropods (Brachiosaurus, Dreadnoughtus, ect.) should kick around Gyrospheres like soccer balls.
2. Dilophosaurus should spit at Gyrospheres.
3. Large and medium carnivores should chase Jurassic Tours and cause the driver to accelerate away.
4. I. Rex should pick up Gyrospheres and shake them.
5. Small carnivores should occasionally try and climb trees (probably just the scenery ones).
6. All carnivores might occasionally knock a goat down and mess with it, but not eat it.
If dinosaurs did something other than sleep, eat, drink, fight, it would be nice. They would seem less bored with their lives.

Except, I don't think the vehicles are equipped to have script animation sequences.

You know, with the release of the Herbivore Dinosaur Pack, I just came up with something else for “playing” dinosaur animation sequences. It is similar to one of my previous comments here, and it’s for the Dryosaurus.

When two individual dryos are playing together, they would literally jump onto and run up a long sauropod’s tail back (Ankylodocus, Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, and Nigersaurus) all the way down the neck and hop right of the head of the sauropods.

They are small enough to do this, plus it’s just to reference their cohabitation with the Jurassic sauropods.
