Why 9 hours downtime ?

There must be some serious database maintenance going on to require 9 hours, surely a minor software patch doesn't require this length of change window.

I wonder what additional changes are being made to the back end support db's, or maybe the cosmetic / ARX changes really will need all that time to create new and update the existing tables.
I don't think this ^^^

Justifies this reaction \/\/\/
People on here are literally going to moan about anything lol.

I HATE FRONTIER WE GET NO GOOD CONTENT UPDATES.

Patch arrives with FREE in game skins and cosmetics

DAMN IT WHY YOU TAKE 9 HOURS TO UPDATE GAME what are you doing!

Note I'm not including the one that is already in the PC section of the forum, that one started very early...

Though maybe they were just getting set up for today..

The Steam client does seem incredibly b0rked - no idea why they keep having Steam sales as it just seems to be pushing more people towards a really painful first few hours trying to get the game to even start...

its because they're adding small seismic charges and fixing the Dolphin heat bug! 9 glorious hours of fixing bugs and adding wondeful stuff, of course thats why its 9 hours :)

I've never had a problem with steam, though I did buy in when steam gave you actual keys as opposed to this electronic stuff that it does now.
Yeah, but the last few months there's been a constant dribble. Then again a lot are buying keys from 3rd party sites - I have less sympathy for them...

It is a sad say though - with Patch Notes already available we miss out on the first few hours of 'wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?wherearethepatchnotes?'

Well we still have the "are the servers up yet?" threads to look forward to, so all is not lost

"aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?aretheserversupyet?"

Personally I love that time when consoles have updated and all the steam / PC peeps start shouting 'whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?whereisthesteamupdate?'

I'd rather have one big long 9 hour downtime in which they have time to take backups and do tests to make sure it deployed correctly, than a two hour downtime followed by another hour some six hours later without warning when they find out about another edge case bug they didn't have time to test for, then another half hour wait, then reports of crashing, then another hour downtime, etc etc etc.

Give me a solid "we will be down for the entire day, go and make alternate plans, it's down for everyone so don't worry about missing out when it comes back unexpectedly and everyone spoils you" than a day of "may or may not work, spin the wheel"

Just like the train actually. When the train is completely cancelled and they say, straight up, "no trains today", then I'll arrange alternate transport. When it's in a limbo state of saying trains are running and then cancelling them at the last minute, that's when I end up missing out on being able to attend things.

Well, at the end of the 9 hours there will be salt.

Every person and their dog will be trying to log on at the same time, overload the servers and suffer from crashes.

Salt will ensue and there will be threads galore all about how this patch is dog egg and they can't get in.
