Game insists on using wrong keyboard layout

The game appears to insist on using an AZERTY layout, resulting in the tutorials making no sense at all.

My system keyboard layout is US International (so QWERTY) and I don't even have an AZERTY layout installed (made sure of it).

I've verified that changing my region from BE with US International layout, to US with US International layout works around the issue, but this clearly isn't a sustainable solution because it messes with everything else on the system as well.

Is there any way to fix this and force the game onto a QWERTY layout instead of trying to be "smart" by picking a layout based on my regional settings?
 
I tried changing the region only for this application, this appears to absolutely do nothing. So the only working workaround is to change my PCs region. Since this messes with all sort of other things (date display, number formatting etc.) this is obviously not a sustainable solution.

So is there any way to work around this issue?
 
I think you might be best to raise a support ticket on the Frontier Support site. https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/

The people on there are super helpful - just be sure to "Raise a Ticket" - you get email responses that way.

(BTW I use a QWERTY keyboard, UK layout and system is UK - never had an issue. )
 
Tried doing as you suggested, 5 days later and no response yet. Not sure if that's normal but it's certainly not giving me a good feeling as new player.

If you have not received an email acknowledging your ticket then something went wrong in the raising of it. The only time they don't email is if you raise a bug report, you need to raise a ticket via (for example):

Elite Dangerous - Windows - Technical Support - then probably Control, Peripheral or VR Issue like this image:

The site does say that their response time is up to 5 working days (busy after the update) but you should get an email aknowledgement right away.

To double-check I just raised a ticket as shown below (not the same as your issue) and got an email instantly upon clicking the raise ticket button.

This is because you're playing Elite in English.
I have a Windows 10 in French with a US International keyboard layout only (I removed French keyboard layout with regedit), and I play Elite in French.
Every time I launch Elite, it creates a French keyboard layout in the Registry, based on my language environment, and uses it...
It's really annoying, and it does a mess with my keybinds, even if I specify en-US in my keybinds file

You are replying to him back in 2019, I doubt he cares. Raise a bug report on the issue tracker or contact support if it's an issue.
