If your primary criticism of these regimes seems to come down to the lip service these despots payed to their take Marxist philosophy, you've completely missed the point of how and why they were so destructive.

Responding to this without being in violation of the no-politics guideline is tough.

Trying it from a neuroscience/medical vantage.

Some people really cannot distinguish between labels and the substance of a thing.
It's like being colour blind. No matter how you explain it, diagrams, synonyms, puppet shows, they cannot get the difference between a real bottle of ketchup, and a bottle of mustard with a ketchup label on it.

"I hate that ketchup crap, it's so yellow! " Just substitute Communist and Dictator.
"Of course he's making America Great, it says so on his hat." - actual quote, from actual person.

To fool them, you need only label your target.
Thus Trumpian nicknames seem infantile to us, but hold the fantasy power of Earthsea True Names for the afflicted, which cannot then be questioned or debunked, and which is why "Socialism" strikes terror like saying "Voldemort" in a Harry Potter movie. Only the reptilian reflex central responses are being used. They haven't the foggiest what it means, because the label IS the object to them.

Naturally this makes them the best marks for cons. Hence - TV Evangelism. It also cripples the ability to accurately judge character, because things said are accepted entirely and wholly at face value, hence the divorce rates and voting patterns in red states, and wall construction on the border. It's possible for cognition to override the handicap, in part. VentroMedial Profrontal cortex is where we ascribe true or false tags to statements, an area that atrophies as we age, hence the demographics of the American Parties.

Unfortunately, the reddest states are also the fattest, which reduces the average IQ in the most vulnerable population. Even less VMPFC function there. First impressions driven through the amygdala are the determinant, which is why racism is so dominant in that region. It's treatable, if we target the amygdala.

Because of this different wiring linguistically, their speech patterns are different.

I confess therefore that suggesting he try to figure it out earlier was light trolling on my part. Me bad.

They cannot do it, anymore than a prosopagnostic can tell who she's looking at. And that causes considerable resentment towards anybody who can. Obviously only a conspiracy of the hostile can explain why other people would all hold an inexplicable position that contradicts theirs. So everybody else is against them: The scientists, the media, the French, the environmentalists, the teachers, the well-educated, Stephen King, Taylor Swift, The Ivy League, Chris Evans, the librarians, Marvel Movies, Hollywood, rappers, rockers, Oprah, the courts, me and you. On the other hand, the conmen who pander and the genuinely brain damaged like Kanye and a certain unnameable in the throes of obvious dementia get (hilarious) accolades as "geniuses".

Let me get this right, you're asking other people about the merits of self-imposed isolation?
I am wondering if the question is about merits, or the judgements that people will make?

Assigning 'Labels' is something humans do. It is easy to put a label on something or someone. It makes it easy to understand and slot onto a box or category.

We see an old man, dressed in a tatty old jacket, flat cap and Wellington boots; sitting on a farmers field gate, chewing a piece of corn and we think. Its the village idiot, another lazy scrounger, proberbly a drunk, whoes going to be bedding down in someones barn or out building tonight. The die has been cast and the label has been fixed. The wife does not think, that is it a good idea to ask directions, or even speak to him. She can see him, holding out his hand, for some beer money. But that label is wrong, this scruffy old man, is sitting on his own gate; looking out upon his own land; which stretches, as far as the eye can see.

Labels are so easy to apply and recognise. Many labels have become, like branding irons. We see over weight people and see, lazy and greedy. We see underweight people and see, Veggie or speed junkie. We don't see physical or mental illnesses, we just see a 'label' that was long ago, whispered, in our ear; about 'those kind of people'. We even make simple colours, like red and blue, labels and branding stamps, of their own. Which is a funny thing. In the U.K. Red in politics, is for the commies and Blue, is for the fascists. Where as in the U.S. the colour branding is opposite. Strange, very strange.

Un1, is asking, if the life he wants to lead, is wrong. This shows a lack of confidence, in himself; because if he was confident in himself. He would have to ask, such questions. He has been given negative labels, all or most of his life. Yet. He still wants to 'do the right thing'. pay his own way, in spite of the thought of leaving his safe space, is the most frightening thing he can think of. He needs our support and encouragement. Not a debate about the merits of welfare systems, or what the reds think about the blues and vice versa.

Rainbow farts. No, you are not wrong. It is not wrong, bad, incorrect or even unacceptable, to have the life desires, that you have. You don't want to harm, exploit or tax in some way; any body else. You want to find a quite occupation, to pay you own way and then be left alone, to enjoy your own space and do your own thing.

Along with a large proportion of the human race. Who want exactly the same thing.

Unicorn, ever thought about getting a driver's license (assuming you don't have it already) and using it to get a job driving?

You could be a delivery driver (demand for delivery personnel is only going to increase in the coming years), a motorcycle courier (nice in the summer, but horrible in the winter), or even a trucker?
It's as solitary as it gets, and driving might be a bit more fun that pushing carts and filling empty shelfs. Plus, the time goes by much faster and you'll get paid better. And no need to put up with annoying supermarket customers.

LOL YES, I can tell you a true story, my Dad had a friend, and my Dads friend was old but he had made a fortune during his many years owning a business.

He was always dressed in old blue jeans, a casual shirt and very used shoes and a baseball cap, but he was worth millions! So one day i ask my dad to join him
to get a new car, my dad loved cars so they like to kick the tires and talk . They went to the dealership, and was looking at this new car, the price was around $50.000 USD and in those days it was a lot of money, well it is still a lot of money buy this was 30 years ago.

The then finally a salesman came along, so what can I do for you guys, you know a bit looking up and down on these two hobos entering this "fine establishment".
😁 My dad said, "well we would like to buy a car" the salesman looked at him and said well the used cars are behind the store 😂 these cars are all new.

Then my dads friend said, "well son, I don't want a used car, I would like to see this one" pointing at the brand new car. The dealer looked at him and said, can you afford this one?

And that was it, they turned around and went to another store where they got a much better service, and the dealer sold a brand new car, and was paid in cash!
never ever judge people on how they look, you could be talking to a millionaire :ROFLMAO:

i was about to get made redundant 2. years ago and I was very close to coughing up the cash and getting a HGV licence. I definitely see the attraction of driving across the country listening to some good rock tunes or a decent book.

what put me off was the gridlock traffic jams and trying to drive down roads barely suited to cars let alone a HGV.

Perhaps, but I suspect there are more people who simply don't read beyond the first lines of something and never give it a second thought.

Anyway, potentially misleading generalizations are precisely what I'm trying to avoid (they've been oh helpful in this thread /sarcasm). Even if there is merit to the idea that certain people are neurologically more prone to certain philosophical leanings, I am not at all comfortable diagnosing a stranger based on the content of a few posts, or pinning broad political alignments on neurological problems.

Holidays are coming up and a lot of contractors will be looking for additional drivers.

I have a personal head canon about that movie. It's the sequel to Breakfast Club and Emilio Estevez's role is the main character.

Think about it. Smokes a lot of pot during a journey of self discovery then on his gap year must fight to save the love of his life from possessed murdertrucks.

It works. ;)
I see a new career in your future! (y)
