Evasive Measures (Decoys etc.)

As I watched a fully armed cmdr's 'Vette on my radar nervously last night as I travelled in supercruise in my little Cobra, it occurred to me that outcomes were entirely at their mercy.

My only options were A) Hope I was faster if they did interdict or B) Hope my shields were up to task in the same situation - both impossible without engineering.

Luckily they didn't seem interested, but it got me thinking about a potential plan C: Supercruise Decoys.

I'm envisaging them being deployable from the utility, weapons or optional internals - only usable in supercruise like the DSS or Scan - which generate 2 other identical Supercruise signatures of your ship going in different directions for a minute or so. Successful interdiction of them would destroy them without dropping the pursuer from Supercruise, and hopefully buy you a chance to escape.

It's not a free pass. But it's a fighting chance in an otherwise impossible situation. Feasible?

Regards

you already have evasive countermeasure, look up how heatsinks and chaff work. also the cobra is the fastest ship in the game before engineering is taking into consideration, only to be superseeded by the icourier, the ieagle, and the viper after engineering is considered, thus placing it at fourth.
I have actually used the cobra to take down pilots in anacondas that were greifing newbies.

Learn the intricacies of the cobra, its an extremely versatile ship. especially for combat.

as for supercruise decoys, I have to say no.

A well equipped Cobra, even without Engineering, is faster than the fastest Corvette that can be assembled. It's also a relatively small target and can be armored well, without compromising cargo utility overly much. I've got an unengineered and shieldless Cobra Mk III that feels pretty safe to take just about anywhere. I wouldn't stick around if attacked, but it would take quite a skilled opponent in something faster than a corvette to stand a good chance of downing that ship.

Feasible?

Possibly, but wholly necessary and would cheapen other defensive tactics.

I didn't know that first part - coriolis confirms so thank you - perhaps should have been less nervous with a 'Vette. But what about a FDL or Mamba?

And would such armouring require engineering again? Is engineering all or nothing?

with heatsinks and chaff a vette will need to bring fixed weapons to bear on a ship that's paper thin.

the tools you seek are already available.
this... even with fixed weapons people are basicaly shooting at a pancake that is already the 4th fastest ship in the game out of 38 ships in the game as far as engineering is concerned. even without engineering the ship is already stupidly fast for something as heavy and thin as it is.

the cobra is notorious for being a mini armor tank. its one of the reasons why its my go to ship because it easily clocks in at 1,900 armor without engineering and still retains 400+ speed. I would go as far to say that a shield generator is pointless on the cobra simply because of how much armor you can stack on it for a ship its size and basicaly make it a high speed brick that doesnt give a damn what hits it. (Assuming your opponent is able to hit you at all with its form factor)

update: it would appear the cobra still retains being the third fastest for combat after engineering as the viper is 50m/s slower with combat engineering.
(I never liked the viper anyways)
